Hey y'all,

My police bike came without a horn. I'm assuming it was some hi tech siren (woop-woop) and they took it off before selling it. Now I need a horn. Any write ups? Pics, etc? Also, anyone got a horn for sale? (I'll post in wanted to buy).

Good opportunity to mount a serious horn instead of the anemic stock horn. The horn is supposed to be mounted on the right side front between the top of the radiator and the fork tube. There is a special weldament off the fairing stay to mount the horn.... if it hasn't been removed.

Do a search on Stebel horn install. If you have Harbor Freight near by you can pick up a Wolo for the same price. Twisted throttle has them on sale occasionally. At a 135ish decibels it is wonderfully attention grabbing.

Have you ever heard a stock ST1300 horn? It's sound like a very civil Road Runner call -meep meep. If you had a regular ST1300 not a 1300P the horn would live under the right fairing, on a subframe on the right fork area. (I hope that makes some sense.)

The ST has no horn relay so if you get some serious honkers you'll need to add one. FWIW you could easily install a FIAMM single horn that's much louder than factory but not as loud as some other choices. If you wanted to use the set (one high/one low) you'd need a relay.

Search the site and you'll find a lot of threads covering options and installations. My next set will be GoldWing horns. I'm thinking they should fit fairly easily but will need a relay.

I'm going to assume your police bike's horn was originally built by the outfitter as an air horn function into the siren bell. They probably removed the (worthless) OEM horn, and put it to good use---as a paperweight. :D

Put a Stebel on your bike, and you'll never want.

For simplicity, ( K.I.S.S.), the pair of Fiamm Highway Blasters cannot be beat. No compressor to go bad, and require removal of the fairing to replace, and they are LOUD. They can be had at many local retailers, and are fairly reasonable. With the pair, you must use a relay. Many good write ups on here as to wiring, mounting, etc. Make sure to use the mounting pieces they provide- they are "tuned" to the horn's output, and won't attenuate the sound.

These are great horns, this is what I have replaced my Stebel horn with. The Stebel did not like cold or wet weather and would barely work in those conditions.

I did the Stebel install as shown in the tech section. A great write up with clear pictures and very straight forward once the plastic was off. A huge improvement and works very well (so far/1 season-7500 miles). I reinforce that an after market horn is the direction to go. Use the search function to find the horn threads.

++1 My hi/low pair of Fiamm HI Way Blasters have been honking away for 12 years. Run them off a relay triggered with the stock horn wires.
