Article [13] ST1300 - RECALL: Ground Connector/Wire Harness (Bike Year: 2003-2004)

Re: ST1300 - Ground Connector/Wire Harness (Bike Year: 2003)

took my 2003 st in for recall march 2012 and still blowing fuel pump fuses any advice?

Updated this to include the 2004 model. The original recall letter I got only stated 2003.

I took a screen print of the NHSTA site recall info as well.

Thanks for posting this Joe.

I just checked my '04#2 and guess what! It hasn't ever been done!

So I guess I'll be checking it out this weekend to see if there's any damage to the connector. This could take awhile to fix...if I need a new harness! :(

Yep, tore into it, exposed the possible connectors and they looked good (bugger to get to). No ground issues, I think my main harness has an issue, but switching to the other headlight socket did the trick for the headlight modulator. (besides the one headlight socket having an issue, my small maker lights above the headlights don't work either, went to the quarter harness and plugged them in)

Working good now! :D

I know this recall doesn't apply to the 2005, but is there a similar pink ground cap assembly for the 2005 models or did they completely redesign the harness in this respect? Can anyone describe the changes, better yet photos of the change (not the repair that was used for the '03 and '04 models. Thanks

This picture is of my 2006 hanger queen but my 2005 is the same. There is no separate pink connector just the one yellow connector just to the left of center. It seems to gather numerous grounds to one bus and then the harness leads it and other ground wires to the lug on the frame. The yellow connector on an assembled ST1300 is located in the area above and behind the right head light.

Ok so early models seemed to have both the yellow and pink connectors under the rear part of the air box. So do the early models not have that yellow cap under the front faring?

OK, answered my own question. Dduelin, I was referring to the area behind the engine, not the block under the faring. I did a bit more digging last night and found that the '05 does have both a yellow (power?) and pink ground cap under the purge valve solenoid, just behind and below the throttle body assembly. The attached photo is looking straight down between the back of the air cleaner and the frame cross member. The front of the bike is to the left (you can see the top of the fuel pressure regulator (slight above center left). From the outside of the assembly and the appearance of the wires, there does not seem to be any signs of distress.

Has anyone had a problem with the yellow cap next to the pink ground cap ,my pump and coils were not getting power c,I checked the ground connector and it was fine and had the extra ground cap fitted but two pins on the yellow block were fries replaced the pins and cap from a spare loom I had but I'm getting bad connections and frankly I would like to do away with the troublesome yellow cap ,Could the wires be bared and jointed and soldered into one package or is that a no no .
