Purchasing Speed Bleeders

I read on the Speedbleeder website to remove my bleeder and compare it to this website http://www.speedbleeder.com/News.htm before purchasing a Speedbleeder.

On certain models Honda used a different bleeder for the front brakes and clutch. Before you order Speed Bleeders for your motorcycle you need to look at the original bleeder screws and make note of the differences. If your motorcycle has the Honda # 43352-MG9-006 then you need to order SB8125LL. If your motorcycles original bleeders look like the SB8125 then you can use that part number or you can use SB8125L. The only difference between the two part numbers is the longer nipple on the SB8125L. Both will work fine.

So I assume I will remove a bleeder from the front brake and look at it before replacing it.

Is there a problem with this so long as I don't touch the brake lever?

How many bleeders does an 1100 have? 3?

Are there bleeders for other parts of the bike I should buy while I am making this purchase? Clutch speed bleeders?
 
Mike, some fluid will leak out but not much. I always do the bleed procedure for a short time to make sure all is good. It's not like a total bleed where you are trying to replace the fluid. Just a piece of mind thing.
 
No need to remove a bleeder to compare to the picture. Just get the SB8125Ls. The short nipple on the SB8125 can be difficult to keep a bleed hose on. I used three (125Ls) for the brakes on my '93 1100, 2 front and 1 rear, and I put a 125LL on the clutch, but in hindsight, I think a 125L would have been fine.

Both fluids are pretty dark and probably overdue for a flush.

So you're saying 3 of them should be all I need for my brakes?
I still think I'll check the clutch bleeder just to make sure I get it right.
 
Not sure if the ST1100 has a linked braking system. If it does, I'd stay away from speed bleeders and follow the procedures in the Service Manual. The Service Manual procedure for the ST1300 requires a brake fluid drain before refilling in a specific order of steps. Following the specific steps ensures that you get all of the old fluid out of the system - especially the linked braking portion - before adding new. For the ST1300, following the proper procedure will save time and money in the long run.

post '96 ST1100 (non ABS)
3x 43352-568-003, front & rear
1x 22866-MF2-711, clutch receiver

also list for the ABS-I/TCS and ABS-II/CBS needs to be entered...
 
Probably not (not that I know of)- I just have the SB8125L on both STs (the 94 ABS and the 2000 non ABS). Not sure if the ABS-II requires a different one. From what I just checked, Speedbleeder.com doesn’t list the ST1100 on the site, but most Hondas use the SB8125L (I think the L for long just applies to the length of the nipple fitting, so it really shouldn’t matter I wouldn’t think.
