RIP Tom Loftus (tloftus)

Sad. Never met him, but was always amazed by the miles he racked up on the Mileage tracker. Dedicated rider for sure. Admirable. RIP Tom.

Just heard this terrible news. Feels like I got punched in the stomach. I also met Tom a few years back at the IBA pizza party. I believe it was my first one so I didn’t know all the faces that went with the names in the big dog IBA world. I was parked next to him in the parking lot of the hotel and he started talking to me about my ST1100. Mine is a Black 98, he had a Black 99 at one point. Super nice guy. I didn’t find out until later that I was shooting the bull with an IBA legend! Rest In Peace my friend, you will be missed.

Some additional notes:

Could Tom ride? He finished 7 Iron Butt Rallies and never used an aux fuel cell. Just dogged determination and confidence in his ST1300s kept him going, going, going . . .

As noted here previously, Tom started is own company and the beacon tuning that I knew about was only a part of what his company did. Here's an article noting his being named the Small Business Person of the Year for D.C.

Good friend to all and I never heard him say an unkind word about anybody. RIP Tom.
