Hi Obo, we've been doing the same in Cornwall for years now, they help to stabilize the sand dunes when the gales and high tides come.

I thought of that when I saw the tree story.
Oddly enough whales will spontaneously explode on their own once deceased. Mind you bit don't fly for miles or destroy cars....
This one had a bit of non TNT help, but you get the idea...
