Re: Replacement for the Honda ST1300 in 2014?

What this thread needs is an animated smiley sticking a fork into an ST1300. My love for the current design was lost long ago, but I find it quite unfortunate that Honda has chosen not to play in the US sport-touring sandbox at all - they could AT LEAST give us the new VFR800, the sub-litre class of bikes are selling pretty well in North America.
How about Honda ST ST = Honda STanding STill.

When I was growing up Honda was a family bike company- small and medium dirt bikes for kids, bikes like the Hondamatic for new riders and women, larger standards for guys, and a couple Wings to cover couples and tourers (silver & gold). Now I guess they are only concerned with sportbikes, cruisers, and the Wing.

I can hear the immortal lyrics of Peggy Lee singing, "Is that all there is? Is that all there is? If that's all there is, my friend, then let's keep dancing. Break out the booze, and have a ball. If that's all there is..."

That said, ST-owners.com is the best-run make/model-centric forum I have been on. Here's a Tip of the Helmet to Mellow and the forum members. Their manners and intelligence provide value that rises above the brand/model info that originally brought me here.

Perhaps the site could broaden its focus a bit to remain strong as the traditional models of interest fade from the scene.
Its already there Norm...

an STOC event is filled (more and more it seems) with non STs.
At this point its the people the bind us together not the (ST11/13) bike.

"ST" at this point may as well stand for Sport Touring Owners...

Perhaps the site could broaden its focus a bit to remain strong as the traditional models of interest fade from the scene. Motorcycle Sport Touring Association (MSTA) started out as Honda Sport Touring Association. Many of the original Honda-riding members rode multiple bikes of different brands. They also brought along friends who rode other brands and wanted to join in the style of riding the club promoted. The result was a de facto all brands club that eventually changed its name to reflect its all brand nature.

Hopefully, st-owners.com will find a similar way forward. It would be a waste to dismantle such a good community.

Best wishes,
ST-Owners can be interpreted as Sport Touring Owners, not only as Honda specific ST model owners. :)

Does Honda owe us anything? No. Do they have to provide us a new ST? No. Do we have to ride honda? No. Will they do anything with the ST? Who knows.

Vote with yer dollars. :)

I'm not really concerned with models we can't get. But that does show how out of touch Honda is. Adventure bikes have become very popular here. Why not offer us bikes that have already been designed and tested, and are proven to be popular?

That's hard to understand alright, given the size of the potential market over there, has it something to do with emissions?
can't imagine your laws are any worse than the EU cr*p.

Yup that's a head scratcher. Instead, we're left hanging for four years, then at the end of the model run they deliver an outdated bike and get poor sales.

Re: Replacement for the Honda ST1300 in 2014?

Choices, Choices. Lots of Choices. Here are a couple of my Choices. Spend $16k on a New 2014 FJR1300 OR Choice #2 Spend 800 bucks on a new Rear Shock for my 2003 ST1300 and ride it another 10 years/ 100k miles. What say you all. Yes there are a lot of choices out there. The question is now which direction to go in. ;)

yep there are still folks showing up every day saying how great the ST is, both of them...they may be older designs but they are far from failures.
