Wow glad you caught that before getting back on the road. Wishing you a safe ride.
During my first tour, i was stopping in safety lanes for pics. I ended up w 5 plugs in my rear before i caught a chunk of razor blade and blew the sidewall.
im now waiting for a bit before i check the preasure again.

Hope it holds for you. That tire is shot..!!! Not much for that plug to hold onto. Sorry to say...but.....You will not make it home on that tire.

When you do change it.....do yourself a favor and cut it open with a box cutter and see how thin that rubber is right now.
No much insurance against a flat when loaded that heavy. Found out the hard way my self.....once upon a time.
I am not being a buzz kill, just don't want to see an unfortunate post about a flat in the middle of no where and a gummy worm won't work.......and it is raining.....at night.....in the middle of no where........and cold........ Did I say middle of no where..??? Oh ya, and when you do find a tire...it is the wrong size.....twice the price.:think1:
My school of hard knocks taught me a lesson.....once upon a time.
Sorry, my optimism is low today. Hope it works out OK for ya.
Your posts are awesome by the way....:)

Based upon just that pic, I don't think that tire is down to it's last days, at all. I lot of dual compound/touring tires don't have much, if any "tread" in the very middle, like what you see in Michael's tire. In fact, there is still some tread just off center, thus my thinking that there's still some life left. That being said, I'm sure Michael knows how many miles are on the tire and he should certainly keep an eye on it.

Yea, im a bit unhappy. I keep these properly inflated, dont race and stick mostly to pavement, except when camping. I have 10,000 on them and they look like *****. I have about 1000 to get home and wonder if these are gonna get me there. I do have some wear bar and tons of side tread. i think my next set are going to be avons.
Lucky for me, i dont have to b home until oct,8, so i can take my sweet time
Just rechecked the preassure and all is well! Why do they put lube in a plug kit when contact cement works better?
