Shipping out of boston!

Judging by the pic, and the still visible tread just off-center on each side, I'd say Pop-Pop will make it home. Our riding styles, roads travelled, etc. may be quite different, however the OEM Exedra tires I'm running have way more tread than that left with 10K on them. Unless you are an aggressive corner burner you may be better served with a more touring oriented tire. RT

But trying to get a rear tire for a ST1100 on the road is even less fun than that! ;)
The rear 160-70-17 was a size used on early Harleys, before they changed frame to accept wider sizes. They even had a Dunlop tire with "Harley" on the side wall. You could then claim you rode your Harley home, pointing to the tire.;) An option, should the need arise.

He's going to WV-STOC, maybe someone going has a tire to bring along?

As it turns out, the rear for the BMW K1200LT is also the same size as the ST1100 as I use the BStone version regularly.
The challenge is finding the tire and then finding someone to change it that won't cost you more than the bike is worth.

Ok, ok - I have a rear tire that I took off my ST1100 prematurely because of a flat. The staple holes have been patched from the inside. There is a powersports dealer in Elkins - so, Mike if you want this tire, just check to see if the dealer will mount it for you. Then let me know.

To Ray's offer of a tire there are 2 "local" dealers to Canaan Valley that might mount the tire.

Elkins Motorsports (Kawasaki/Suzuki) 34 miles
304-636-7732
And
Tri County Honda 46 miles (Petersburg)
304-257-4420

And Bill Roszell in Oakland MD has an auto repair shop in McHenry MD and he could probably change it too. He will actually be at WV-STOC Friday & Saturday, his shoo info below.

Garrett Automotive 44 miles
301-387-6148

HTH,
John G.

Thank tou, but i think i have enough rubber to get home. Just checked the preassure and by golly, the tire still has air in it! Im not thru the wear bars yet and am not planning any wheelies or burn outs, so im fairly confident.
many thanks to all. Plus, someone took me up on a bet, so its pride before brains now!
im trying to decide if im heading straight home or to the wv stok. The meet is a bit out of the way, but not much. Something to ponder asi roll along today.

I remember you used these same kind of tires on your spring tour at around 10,000 miles as well. I say you are cheating and you already know you got some miles left. Just don't go looking for a nail to test the tread depth.

Cheating? Im from boston! We only cheat when it involves money, wives, pride, property, ego etc! I would NEVER cheat!

Well, after great thought, i have decided to head home. Im not as concerned about the plug as i am about the tread depth. I have to get 1000 home and a bit left when i get there. A week earlier than planned, but i really cant cry about not having one hell of a nice trip! Id b a real dingleball if i whined!
So, im running north, to erie pa, and then east thru upstate ny to boston.
tire is holding air just fine!
this early return will give me an extra week to get ready for the spring trip.
i have been honored w a new name, seen the pacific, spoiled the kids, been to a stoc and met some pretty cool people and watched the stars go to sleep most mornings, to mention just a few things that i received on this trip.
so, back i go! Its going to be an adjustment with the crowds, but boston truly is the most beautiful city in the world and a part of me misses it greatly.
