I recall doing the drive across Highway 2 way back when, summer of 92 I think. Nothing but a lot of serene emptiness. Got tagged for speeding in Montana; ticket was $5 on the spot for "wasting of a resource", i.e. gas by going over the limit.
Thats so funny. Last spring a cop wasnt in that kind of mood when he had to chase me 31/2 miles to pull me over!

Yeah, we got lucky, I was driving with a buddy of mine, we were both going out to Alberta (weather's good there in the fall...) to visit respective girlfriends. The Trooper was a decent guy, we didn't have the registration etc.originals, just photocopies. I think what helped is that we were clearly a couple hapless clueless polite Canadian kids, lots of sorry's and yessirs. I think he took pity on us and hit us with the lightest infraction he could think of.

My funniest one was 'failing to obey a posted sign' (happened to be a speed limit sign - but a very low fine) because my 'friend' in front of me ran away on his motorcycle from the trooper and I pulled over. He told me to tell my buddy that this was his ticket!

Hey, If you make it to the Biker flop house, you get free bed, food, and laundry.... If the timing is right.
You could make the coast from here no problem. About 250 miles from here to the Seattle area.

Left willisron in the rain which continues all the way to havre, which is about 300 mi. It was pretty good until the end when i went around this very, very dark cloud. For about 15 mi, i was in third gear and the wind from that cloud blew me around like a kneenex. Then, suddenly, im in blue sky and big puffy friendly clouds!
I found a free camp about 100 mi away, in my direction and went for it.
My 200 mi day became 380. A challenging 380 to say the least!

Im either getting better riding or more senile. Ive been on two of the shittiest dirt roads ever and managed to survive them. This camp site was six miles out of shelby, down a dirt road that must b a snowmobile track. Rocks, ruts and mud. I was out of my saddle a few times!
But boy, was it nice! Camped on soft, level grass, great views, critters everywhere and a beautiful moon.
Slept the best ive ever slept in a tent. Went to bed a little before sunset and, other than the iccasional pee, was out till 6:00 am.
A wonderful night and camp. Free!!!
One of the best things i packed is a oversized geezer paper road atlas. I discoveres i made is that im on glaciers doorstep. Im giving serious thought to spending a day there putzing around.
