Looking to get into dual sporting and found a 2008 V Strom 650 with about 50k on the clock...is that a lot for this little bike?

50K for any bike these days should not be a problem.... providing it has been well maintained and has no "death rattles" when running.... and no smoke, other than maybe a puff on start up...... if it smells like it is burning oil it may need a compression test just for assurance that there isn't valve or ring problem.

Can't really speak for Suzuki but my friend had a Honda NT650V which is the forerunner of the NT700V now being sold over there, it had 98,000 when he sold it and it ran very well..... you couldn't tell any real difference between the 20K miler I had at the time and his......

If the price is right, and it should be inexpensive, it may just be a bargain!

Clearly if it looks like it is a shed, British colloquialism for, a poor visual condition, then I would probably avoid it unless it is REALLY cheap.

I know a guy with 2 650 V Stroms, both of them have 125,000+ miles on them.

Check for rust indicating it was parked outside, without a cover. Electrical problems will probably be the biggest risk. Then rubber and plastic issues from exposure, altho its not a very old bike. Hydraulics and coolant conditions. That's a fine ride and I see the 1000 is making a comeback for 2012. Cheap to keep bikes.

I have 55,000 on my 2005. The 650 is a great bike ... bought it to go to Prudhoe Bay and back. Kept it because it was so versitile. Let me know if I can answer any questions ...

I hope not as I just bought one for my wife last fall with about 12,000 miles on it. Only had one short ride before winter but it seemed like a great bike. Come on spring!!
