I'm truly sorry for your loss. I too have a father that we put in assisted living at Christmas, since then he's taken to falling and has fallen 14 times and broken a hip and a rib. Now he's in the 'old folks home' and we're dealing with the 'when not if' thing ourselves. I feel your pain and my heart goes out to you and your family. Just remember, you did all you could to help him be comfortable and know he's at peace.

Thanks for all the kind thoughts and good advice. We had Dad's memorial service today. I got to the church early to crank up the AC (Kansas, in June...) and ran the VA supplied flag up the flagpole (he was cremated, so there was no casket to cover.) My brother and I used our best recollected Boy Scout skills to re-fold it before we went home. The service went well, and I think we all felt a little better afterward. My brother's headed back to North Carolina (odd that the non-riding sibling lives where the curves are) after lunch today. Amidst taking care of the remaining business, I think I'm going to sneak away for a ride on Saturday and possibly again on Sunday.

Sorry to hear about your loss...

Seems to be happening these days as we get older, then we would like to think about!

I lost my dad when he was only 62, that was back in 1991. I still think of him often.

My brother lost his wife of 37 years in Oct of 2007. She was 55.

We lost my wife's mother last June (2008). Chris is still working at getting along with out her, but she has had a rough go at it. My mother-in-law was 73.

Prayers are said for you and your family!

Roger, I don't think it's ever easy even if you know it's a "When not What" situation. I lost my father to Leukemia four years ago two months after he was at my Navy retirement ceremony. I still have a hard time dealing with it but, I can say that you will get through this.

Sorry to hear about your dad. My dad is also under Hospice care at an Alzheimer's facility now. I try to focus on the long life that my father has enjoyed. He retired in 1981 and played golf 3 days a week up until 2 years ago. My dad will be 86 on June 16. Even though we know it's coming soon, I know it's going to be really hard to go through.
Our thoughts are with you and your family.
