ABS active at low speed

The bike had a fault that I traced to the front wheel sensor which I replaced.

On the test run after replacement, the ABS light which was flashing prior to replacement was eliminated but now the ABS is active at low speed (below 10mph) you can hear the clicking of the ABS and the pumping action on the brake lever.

Anyone experienced this before? I have read the manual and it does not mention how to cure this problem. I would be greatfull if anyone could help.

Check the following on both wheels:

  • Speed sensor clearance
  • Condition of pulser ring
  • Condition of surfaces of sensor. The UK's unique flavor of road crud build-up could make one of them work unreliably, or there may be buildup of something magnetic.
  • Condition of sensor wiring. The service manual covers this pretty extensively.

This happens a lot when there is a flaw in the tone wheel. Either you have too much clearance of the sensor to the tone ring or some teeth are messed up. I have had this happen on cars even when the teeth are just slightly bent, Land Rover I believe, not even close to an ST but the systems work much the same.
