Alps Ride & European Bike Week 2010

Glenda said to tell you she's jealous and wishes she knew how to ride on the back of your motorcycle. Carole said to tell you she was "einsam" for Europe. I knew the pics would be great. Been there. Love, Mom

Great photos, and I hope you got video going through some of those passes!

BTW, the spot tracker straightened out some of the roads, so please post the actual routes.

Thanks,
Lynn

Thanks Alan!! More is coming!

Mom, tell everyone hello for me!

Lynn, I am doing video everyday. This net book is just too slow to manipulate it and upload it. I will post those when I get home. I will also make routes of each day when I get home and post them. I think I might be able to get those from Frank's GPS.

On the road!!!!

I've traded email with MAC_JD via his Blackberry, and they are stopped in northern Italy with no internet connections, so I volunteered to post a quick update.

His Spot places them here at the end of the day: [ame="http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=46.41586,10.35264&ll=46.41586,10.35264&ie=UTF8&z=12&om=1"]46.41586,10.35264 - Google Maps

Some quotes from him:

"Nice place. Just had a shower and a beer. Life is good. We made our nine pass goal today!! No internet here unfortunately : )"

"Stelvio was a blast today. We went via Umbrailpass, the dirt road one!! It was COLD!!!!" :bow1:

When I asked about rain, he replied "It was beautiful today! Mostly in the 60's today. 42 on Stelvio. 77 in one of the valleys."

"I shot video until the battery when out. I have to get it hard wired!"

Note: I agree, the HD HeroPro really needs to be able to run off the bike! But that's a topic for another forum.

Yesterday we had an ambitious goal of riding nine passes. Eight of those Swiss Passes. It was a long riding day but we di it. A great mix of short, medium and long sweepers, tight twities and high alpine riding. We stayed at a camp ground near Bormio. Nice place.

Here are the nine Passes we did:

01 Susten Pass
02 Oberalp Pass
03 Spluga Pass
04 Maloja Pass
05 Julier Pass
06 Albula Pass
07 Olfen Pass
08 Umbrail Pass
09 Stevio Pass (South Side this time)

A nice easy day today. Started on wet roads but quickly dried out. Dodged the wet stuff most of the day. We could see it in the distance. On the last pass coming into Arraba, Italy we got rained/hailed on. Small one but they do hurt!! Nice and wet coming down most of the pass. Of course the sun immediately came out afterwards!! On to Berchtesgarden, Germany tomorrow. Weather is supposed to hold. Not looking great for Bike Week in Villach, Austria.

Looks like a great riding area. Thank you for taking the time to post pictures. Keep them coming and ride safe.

:usflag1:

Stunning photos of some incredibly breath-taking roads! :bow1:

Glad you had good weather for the last couple of riding days, and hope you manage to stay dry while your at Bike Week!

We arrived at European Bike Week a day early. We got camp set up and the bottom of the sky fell out. Dove in the tent just in time.

We went to get Frank a new set of tires. I looked at mine and need new ones also. I love the stickyness of the Pirelli Angels but they do not have the longevity I need!! I 5000KM and they are TOAST!! Got to love it. I did not download the cameras last night. I will get them done in the next day or so and uploaded and see where we are riding.

JD

We are all home safe. 4025 miles all told. We did a straight 600 mile run home on the Autostrade, not much fun but it gets you there quicker!! Time for a shower and bed - More tomorrow.

I am starting to upload videos to Youtube!

Here is one from the Spluga Pass Climb. Lens fogged a bit but it is still fun!!

More to follow!

Great vid... that looked like fun... well, actually, it looks like it could have been MORE fun... LOL

Yea traffic slowed us down a bit! It is taking forever to upload these. Getting there though. Go Pro has a housing now that will allow you to plug the camera in to power it. I ordered mine! I don't now what I am going to do with all the footage. I have 40 gigs of video from this trip and that was limited by the 2.5 hour battery per day. Gonna be lots more on future trips!

I am going to try and get up to Andermatt one more time this year before the snow sets in (fingers crossed). I might have to break out the electrics.
