Whilst up at Dave's with Cammy getting our carb balances checked, I note that we were all running Avon STorms!
I looked at my mileage and realised that this is the highest mileage I have ever achieved on a front tyre on my ST's.....
Thy tyre has done about 8000 miles and has maybe another 3-500, maybe more, left in it.....
Previous best was the tyre that was on this ST when I got it, a BT020F which after checking servicing records, had done 6390. Which I thought quite good compared to my previous ST1100.
Dave commented that my rear, TYRE, looked very good despite having around 3000 on it already. The previous tyre, also a STorm, which replaced the original BT020 rear at 6390, only did 4900, which was shocking, but did include my End 2 End ride so pretty much squared it off and took out the centre of the tread.
If the rear continues to wear as well as it is I think, it should do almost 8000-9000 miles. Which will pretty much be a record for any bike I have ever run....
So to summarise;
BlueSTeel... ST1100.
BT020's on bike when I got it, mileage 6390 miles front and rear.
Avon STorm non Ultra rear 4900. Squared and worn out in the middle.
Avon STorm Ultra front so far 8000 miles.... only 0.5 millimetres remaining above the wear markers. (Standard balance weights)
Avon STorm Ultra rear so far 3000 miles with 5.0 millimetres remaining,it comes with 6.8mm. This tyre has Dyna Beads installed, has no cupping or uneven wear at all, other than the usual wearing out the middle first.
I am looking forward to trying the next STorm Ultra on the front with Dyna Beads to see if there is an improvement, most particularly in evenness of wear as per the rear.
Hope this is useful, please bear in mind that where I live and the roads I ride are not the kindest on tyres. I wish I could see some of the mileages you guys in the US get on tyres......
