I think that's a goldwing wheel... am I right Dan.. from a GL1500? I know the GL1800s have that valve stem support.

Yes it's a GL1500 wheel and it's built in to the wheel. A pin that the rubber slides over.

The card box is an old sheet music sales box...LOL

Ok I went over to the Darkside and checked it out. GL1500 wheel, I had to move the wheel to the left 7/32 of an inch. I found after 15min of riding you don't even notice that you have a car tire on the bike. I had to play with the air pressure to get a place where it felt the best. I went high 45 to low 25 and set it at 30 for the best feeling. I have put 1000 miles on the set up and have had a blast playing with it. I won't say that I would blast in to the twisters like a pro rider but for my skill level it will work. I had no ill effects over 100+ after getting the air pressure where I wanted it. I used a FEDERAL FORMOZA Tire - 175 60 16 and it lowered the bike the same as a PR2. So now with the Wing wheel will a high qualty Wing sized tire fit the 1100 ? , might be a compromise between darside and M/C camps

Yes, Gene, all the 160/80/16s will slide right in, once the wheel is offset that little bit to the left. No clearance problems with the fender 'n such.

<edit, add> If I remember correctly, the original Connie had a 16" rear.

has anyone tried to see if the Goodyear Assurance tire will fit when inflated. I saw one on a Valkyrie. Nice looking tire.

My Austone taxi tar is just about toast, has maybe 1000 miles left. I have a 175/60/16 Formoza setting in the garage, gonna change it this week. In the meantime, lipSTick has started throwing TCA and ABS codes, random TCS activity (retards the spark) until it finally turns itself off. Everything resets if I let it set for a while, suspecting a heat related problem. Anybody?

Just out of interest then George, how's the mileage and wear on that thing?

Looks like about 18,000 on the taxi tar, not nearly what I was hoping. Handled fine, and I liked the taller (about 6%) final drive ratio. But not worth the price, more expensive than a good MC tar and not significantly better miles. Hope the Formoza lasts longer but it's shorter. Hate giving up the added ride height so working on a farkle for that.

Good point, Dave. Once I find a model I like, I do tend to STick with it. OTOH, my 88 'Wing, which I never really liked, I only kept for 75,000 miles.

On the flip side: who's the guy here who just bought a new 6-cylinder Beemer and has already traded it for a new RT?

used the stock spacer and the spacer that came with the goldwing wheel + .35 shim. Will machine the correct spacer now that I know what it needs..

Hi Dan, thanks for doing the legwork on this. Been wanting to go over since we did my buds Valkrie a couple years ago.

So, have my GL500 wheel with the Formoza and ready to start making shims. Since I don't have a decent lathe to work with I'm enlisting a retired machinist to do them. Going to have the long tube shim made the 7/32" longer and the caliper mount shim minus that amount but what dimension did you find the for the final spacer at the outside of the wheel? And, while I'm at it, how did you drive the shim out of the caliper mount without destroying it?

Larry, the shim came out'a the caliper arm pretty easily with a drift and a ball-peen hammer. Go side-to-side and a little at a time. No biggie. I straddeld mine with a couple pieces of steel stock I had laying around to provide clearance underneath.
