BamaRider adds 2018 RT to stable

I understand the complications if something's goes wrong part. I took the side fairing off of my GTL yesterday to run wiring for the radar detector. It looked a whole lot different than my ST1300.

Congratulations to you guys on your BMWs. Very nice bikes! My buddy has a '17 RT and loves it.
A word of caution when adding electrical accessories to CANBUS equipped bikes. Make sure whatever distribution or relay setup you use is diode protected between the coil terminals, usually #s 85 (-) and 86(+) to avoid an unwanted voltage spike. There is a whole thread on this here, post #8 makes the most sense, to me at least:

I discovered this trying to figure how to wire up my CANBUS equipped Harley, thought I would share.

Yes, I still have my CB 1100 probably my fav bike. Not sure what I will do with the 2014 FJR, I paid it off a few months ago, so it doesn't cost me anything to keep it around. I like riding it, but it is possible I sell it, I plan on keeping the ST 1300, because I couldn't get much for it if I wanted to sell it, and I still ride it often, but it is probably retired from any long tours.

I've always liked the hardware part of Long Riding, as much as the tour itself. The RT, the FJR, and now the new GL are so far removed from a ST 1300 in terms of function, that it is not really a fair comparison.

I just posted a pic of the RT on my website, you'll have to click over there and follow the link.

Nice ride Guy, congrats!

I installed a PDM60 to power all my accessories on my K1600GT

I installed a Hex ezCAN on mine for accessories. Plug n play.

I also bought a Hex Code GS-911 Wifi diagnostic tool for maintenance and code resets.

Nice ride. Been eyeing that bike before my ST. Had to buy the wife a Camaro just to get the ST. I guess have to upgrade her to a Corvette to get an RT.

That's funny...:)

Grats on your new bike, Guy. Little more power and torque on the water boxer.

Latest addition. This thing will just tear your face clean off. Never had a bike with this kind of horsepower and pull. It is just insane. Same engine as the S1000RR suoerbike, but re-tuned for more mid range torque. Also has an upright riding position. The electronics (ride control, riding modes, ABS Pro, stability control) has come a LONG way.

We own a '05 ST and love it. We rode an '06 RT and a '10 GS prior to buying the ST. We have also rented a '15 RT for a week in NorCal.
The '06 was really tractor like.
The '10 GS was brilliant and very different from the RT
The '15 RT was different again. So much power, agility and comfort. I really loved riding that bike.
If I were looking again and had the cash I'd seriously look at a WC beemer.

And don't forget the rumours, speculation, spy photos, of the new VVT1250 boxer engine, now that could be a game changer.
The view inside that K16 fairing is just downright scary.
Upt'North.

I said that about each of the 4 new motorcycles I've bought since I turned 62 also ....... currently overdue for a new bike.

Tom

Avitar says age 67. So if you were to buy a new bike now it would be new bike # 5 in 5 years? Good for you! Sounds like you are enjoying yourself.

Averaging over 40,000 miles per year, actually reduced the stable from 11 bikes to 5 during that timeframe; 68 this model year :D.

2004 BMW RS (doesn't count)
2013 Triumph Explorer
2015 BMW RT
2016 MV Turismo Veloce Lusso
2016 BMW RS

Now it makes sense why the motorcycle market seems to be in a downturn!

For any wondering, here are the 'spy' RT pics and some discussion of assumed new features: http://www.motorcycle.com/features/2019-bmw-r1200rt-spy-photos-new-boxer-engine.html

Regarding the K16, LOL +1. I can imagine the styling, engine, and frame/suspension engineering teams were each happy with their work and went out for a beerski to celebrate the completion of the K16. That same day, those poor schmucks in the finishing/accessories team went "" as they were given the duty of stuffing in the all electronics, hardware, and other related gadgetry!

Either that guy is great big, or that's a physically small bike.

Wow, 40,000 miles per year!
That's an average of over 100 miles/day. Roll on retirement!
