BMW R12ADV

Went down to the local BMW shop, Brown Motors in Pomona CA because they had a drawing for a motorcycle. Needless to say, I didn't get it. However, I did look over the new R12ADV. I'm very impressed except for a couple small things.

I think the brake light is too small.

I think the driving lights are way cool but their wiring looks anemic. For 55 Watts, it looks like they are using 16 or 18 AWG.

Hard bags are very roomy. Lotsa places to attach gear.

If I could afford it, and I had room in the garage, this would probably be my second bike.

I agree. Every time I see the ADV version I give it a good looking over. It has a very high cool factor. I would have to sell every bike I own to afford one though.

I was just looking at the adventure today too. They are cooler than the GS but they also pack a lot more weight. I can only imagine how it would handle in the tough stuff when fully loaded. I just finished watching The Long Way Around which I found very interesting. Those guys were definitely having their problems with the bikes loaded but watching it made me want one.

With the popularity of the Long Way 'Round, Long Way Down, movies, BMW's become very proud of their R1200GS Adventures--$21,500 at my local dealer! The same price as an R1200RT or a K1200GT.

Here in Canada, according to the BMW Canada website, the base prices for the R1200GSA and R1200RT are inded the same, though at $19,000 CDN, they are also quite a bit less than $21,500. And the price of the K1200GT is quite a bit higher, at $21,375.00.

What is wrong with this picture?

I'm starting to narrow down what my next bike will be. 09 ST1300A, F800 GS, R1200 GSA, DL1000. I'm very happy with my KLR650. It is what it is, a very good, inexpensive, Do It all, Go Anywhere Bike. I still feel the need, the need for speed. I still want a very good, fast, road bike. BMW GS's have a special mystique about them and I would love to have one. I'm not sure I would like to Feed One Though. Big Vee Strom would be a good, inexpensive, adventure touring bike. ST1300, what can I say? If the road is decent you still can't beat an ST1300 for comfort and speed! So Many Choices and so little garage space. Maybe the KLR has all of the marginal road capabilities that I will need. I would still like to run all afternoon at 90-100 mph and then be able to take a Gravel Fire Road or Desert Road into Area 51 and set up camp.
