A few years ago I had a slight bout of dizziness or vertigo, at least I think, and my wife found a article where you reboot your brain and re-calibrate . Start with your head down and focus straight, slowly bring your head up then slowly turn all the way right , left and back to center. Do this a couple of times 6-8 times a day. The next day I was fine. A week later I felt it coming back, did the reboot and never had it since then knock on wood. Maybe this will help, get well Joe.

I've not had the pleasure of experiencing this but since the inside of my head is no more complex than a snow globe, I think the crystals would settle back into place pretty quickly.

Wow! I hope all goes well.

I had one very slight bout when riding alone the Snake River. Going through turns I happened to glance down at the banks and they up and the side/hills/mountains and got a tad of a scare. Focusing on the road I recovered immediately but not before veering to the ragged edge of the road.

Another time I woke up in the middle of the night in a response to a massive sugar rush from a Death by Chocolate dessert I chose instead of dinner. Mom was right- that'll ruin your appetite. Anyway the room spin in a bunch of directions and tried to eject me out a window. I was able to dive back onto the bed where I regained attitude and fell asleep. But it was a worrisome few minutes.

So I have some inkling but no nausea of what you felt and wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy. Well I would but I wouldn't tell anybody I did.

Hope you mend well and you get your Sno-Globe sorted.

Hi there. Am not a dr but can give you some advise of getting rid of this once & for all.
Hydrogen peroxide, solution 3% 10 vols.
cap full peroxide, cap full of distilled water.
Mix both together & pour down ear, ya will hear & feel it fuzzing, dont be scared. Wait for it to stop fuzzing then tilt ya ed over & empty it out. Put some cotton wool in ear. Repeat the other side, same same.
Then repeat d same & use it like mouth wash & spit it out. Try keeping it under ya tongue because it becomes like a blood transfusion & will kill all bacteria in body.
Option 2: black seed & black seed oil.
Option 3: mix sodium bicarbonate with water & drink every day for 7 days.
Hope this works. Take it easy & gud luck.

Lemon & hot water & pinch of cayenne pepper wth honey first thing in the morning. For life.
Just need to flush the virus & bacteria out ya body. The drs wont give ya a cure because they will be out of a job. We are customers to them now. They only av a duty of care & thats why there officers are called practicers mmmm. Mother Nature got a cure for everything gud luck.

My wife had an attack of this and had to be taken to the ER a couple of years back - very frightening. All physicians involved indicated that it is sometimes a viral event.
It gradually improved on its own along with doing the exercises to break up the crystals and thankfully never returned .

Glad to hear its getting better, but damn that sounds like it was an aggressive bout of it.

I used to get it fairly commonly, but would only hang around for a minute or so. Mine sounds very similar to Erdoc's symptoms, though sometimes it would hamper vision pretty badly too. Would not want that while riding the bike!

Hopefully it won't come back (for any of us).

From the man who gets everything, of course I have had this. My ENT sent me to a physical therapist who specializes in it. I wore black out goggles which contained an infrared camera to watch and record my eye movements while she threw me around on a table. She then knew in which ear the little dude was out of position. It only took 2 sessions and she maneuvered it back to its home. It was freaky to watch the recording of my eye jumping around until she took care of it. The recurrence rate is high but that was a few years ago and all has been fine. I’m always a bit flaky so sometimes it’s hard to tell. Good luck, Joe! No fun when it happens.

Yeah... first time I've ever heard of this.. well, had an apparent issue with this on Monday.

It actually woke me up at 3:27AM, I could barely walk/crawl from the bed to the bathroom. It causes extreme dizziness and because of that, nausea. At first I thought I had some new flu strain but no fever, sore throat, runny nose or any typical flu symptoms. I then thought it was food poisoning but I've had that and this felt 100 times more severe. All I could do Monday was lay in bed and not move.

Tuesday was much better, the nausea was gone and the dizziness was reduced by about 60%.

Wednesday the dizziness was at about 15% so I felt okay to drive to an urgent care location to see what they had to say and the Dr. there basically said 99% of the patients that come in with my symptoms have had an issue with BPPV. He said since I'm improving, I should continue to do so. Some take days or weeks for this to go away. There are even movements you can perform to get the dislodged crystals back to the desired location but you need to go to a specialist as there are a different sequence of movements depending on which ear and where the crystals are located. The Dr. stated that unless the symptoms get worse they should only improve and go away.

This would have been tough if touring. I assume it can happen when not sleeping and would have been nuts if on a bike when it happened.

I'm getting better and just thought I'd throw this out there in case anyone else has, or might, experience it in the future.
Had a bout of this several years ago while on a hunting trip. crawled out of my tent, felt dizzy and reached for a nearby tree to steady myself and missed it by 2 feet. hunting partner is a paramedic and insisted on a 1 1/2 hour trip to hospital where they performed Epley procedure (google it) and by the time we drove back to camp I was fine. Would be scary as hell if you were alone on a bike trip. The Epley procedure is worth knowing.

Look up "Epley's Maneuvers", it's pretty much follows the info provided above. Have you had allergies lately? Sometimes this can aggravate the condition. My wife has had this happen several times over the years and I perform the process on her. Crystals form in the ear which can turn your world upside down and spin your head. Often times you can determine which ear is affected.

Good luck and quick recovery

Wow! Lots of useful info from the group, thanks!
Glass to know I don't have a brain tumor. Lol, and it did cross my mind.

Joe, sorry to hear about the vertigo. My wife had this a few years ago. Google “Epley maneuver”. We successfully used this method to quickly get rid of the symptoms caused by the crystals that settled in your balance sensor. Wish the docs could check for fail codes. It would make it simpler.

My brother has episodes and always carries medication in case it hits.
