burble on decel 98 1100

New to me 98 1100.

Idles smooth and runs great. Power is right off of idle.

Popping, burble on decel.

Normal?

I jet my dirt bikes a little rich on the idle circuit so I don't see this much .

I'm on my 5th ST1100 and work on a few others and that is the way they run. Nothing unusual with the way yours is sounding on deceleration. I did go through the carbs on my first one and as you talk about richening up the slow jets, plus a little fatter on the upper, and I did get the main needle to open just a bit sooner. That, and also removed the PAIR system got rid of the popping sound. I would consider doing it again but I ride the 1300 now and don't have that problem.

I think a vacuum leak can cause this.

You still have it you just don't hear it with the 1300 stock muffler. I put Staintunes on mine and can hear it but it doesn't bother me or the bike so just ride on.

Thanks for the quick replies.

The stable idle leads me to believe that I'm not leaking air, but I'll check out all the hoses when I need to get in there for maintenance.

It's more of a burble than a pop. There is no 'hard' sound to it at all, so I'm not too worried about holing a piston.

On my 3rd 1100 and wife on her 2nd and they all burble of decel. Seems a trait of the beast. And a GREAT beast they are!!!! Just sayin.
