Just think - drop another 48f degrees and you will be in FIRST place ! Good luck , if you last longer than 15 mins at that temp I will send you a prize ! No idling , no stopping , no heated gear and no hair drier wired to battery stuffed into jacket . ( DC converter ... eh no )...

-42.6 C (-44.6 F) yesterday in Saskatoon without the wind. Any hearty souls go for a ride? Certainly that would garner first place!
Warmed up to a balmy -34.8 C (-30.6 F) today.

Had -2F this morning... but as the season has been that nasty frozen stuff STILL clogs the roads. Still falling out of the sky every 2 or 3 days and not enough time nor the right temp to clear it away before more shows up.

Supposed to be cold here in the morning, maybe as low as 22°. Still won’t get me in the top 10 though! ;)
Well, it was 23°-24° for my 35 minute commute in this morning. My 'lectrics (jacket liner & gloves) worked well but my toes got a little chilly... it's not really cold enough for long enough here for me to hassle with heated socks. Heck, it's going to be in the 60s next week.

Man, that's some serious cold. I bet the summers are even cold up there!

I visited Montreal for a few days in January one year (1995?) and it was about -43° one evening when we went for dinner at street level. Hard to describe how cold that is, but way too cold for me.

I haven't spent much time in Saskatoon but do have a bit of experience in Edmonton. Beautiful during the summer, not too hot and you can play softball at 11 o-clock at night without artifical lights. ;)

Paul:

I am not sure about Edmonton but much of the Canadian prairies get quite hot in the summer. Temperatures in the 100 deg. F range are routine in the summer.

Assuming you are including the wind chill in that as the coldest temperature ever recorded in Montréal was much warmer at a balmy -37.8 C (-36.4 F). It is only a 5 degree difference but at these temperatures we count every one of them. Reality is that Montréal spends most of the winter around the freezing point during the daylight hours which really beats the roads up as they are constantly going through the freeze/thaw cycle.

Interesting, I wasn't including windchill, I was just going by what they told me... I don't remember seeing a temp gauge. Must have been "warmer" than -43°... maybe it was -33°F? It's just that the -43° is stuck in my head, and it was really cold!! Anyway, that was a long time ago! I did visit Toronto in the winter as well, but don't remember it being unusually cold. Those are my only two excursions into Canada. Riding in Western Canada is on my bucket list though.

At the end of the day I think it comes down to what you are used to. I have relatives in Saskatchewan where -40 C is the norm in winter but it is extremely dry. They have come to Montréal in the winter and have found it to be uncomfortably cold when it was only -15 C because they are not used to the dampness we have here in the St. Lawrence Valley. When I rode through Death Valley it was 110 F in the shade and I didn't find it as bad as riding around here in 85 F temperatures with the 95% humidity we get in the summer.

Agreed, hot & dry is way better than humid and cooler. I much prefer to be a little too warm than a little too cold.

Yeah, I know it's September and still warm for most of us, but a few have mentioned snow flurries in their neck of the woods. Like last year, just post the lowest temp you've ridden in for more than a few miles for the 2018-2019 winter. Extra details would be nice, but not required, i.e. gear worn, where you went, etc. I'll post the names and temps of the top 10 in this first post, as they are generated. Also... no windchill, no handicap and no participation trophies! Don't hesitate to correct me if I miss someone or make a mistake.

All temps in Fahrenheit. Latest updates in red.
I was feeling tough until I read this. My coldest ride was Lake Tahoe 25 degrees and snowing. Kudos, to all the bad asses above.

I need to get mc tire chains or ice studded tires on my bike. Then I could have taken advantage of a few days of mild -20F or lower mornings going to work. Not as cold as the rider in the link posted by fredflintstone but chilly just the same. 4-7 inches more of the white stuff expected between this afternoon and tomorrow and the side roads and driveways are still covered with what was put down last week and last weekend.

Finally was able to ride again... but only to take the Burgman 650 to the dealer 20 miles away one way for new tires. Rear tire was loosing air and the slow leak was getting worse every week, even when it was just sitting waiting for the snow to be gone from the pavement. Temps were in the 20's F when I took it in. This morning it was a little cooler. Rode home with new shoes on the back roads. New tires are slick enough in warmer temps but much more slippery in these cold temps so wanted to keep the speed down. Went through a few creek valleys on the way where temps were solidly at +6 F.

Too bad the dealer wasn't open at 6 am or 7 am when the temps were below zero F. But then I'm OK with above zero F at 10 am.

btw- shop mechanic did find a real skinny construction nail, like used in nail guns, in the rear tire. Couldn't see from outside but found it sticking up inside.

I dunno... we might be to the point we won't get any more really cold temps here in southern Ohio. The cold temps we had this year were accompanied by accumulated ice and snow, preventing riding. Think my 17 might be the best I'm going to be able to do this year (booooo). It's still possible of course, but in another week and a half we will be into March.

Average Weather in March in Cincinnati Ohio, United States

Daily high temperatures increase from 49°F to 60°F, rarely falling below 33°F or exceeding 75°F.

Daily low temperatures increase from 31°F to 40°F, rarely falling below 17°F or exceeding 54°F.

I just road into work again today. Finally have my hand back in good enough shape to pull the clutch on the WR250 but still glad I can do most shifts clutch-less.

Temp is a balmy 9°F so I didn't advance my spot but did note my Klim gear and gloves were plenty enough to keep me comfortable without electric heat added, to my body at least. I did add Oxford grips to both my WR250 (Yamaha duel sport) and my ST1300 and find they add to comfort keeping my hands from aching during the 30 minute ride when in the 5-30°F range but sub-5 too much cold comes in from the back of my hands and I need to add something extra.

Average temps soon to be above the freeze point! Days are getting longer! Winter is over!

Later,
Kent Larson from Minnesota

46 degrees and sunny for today's ride, does not bode well for a cold ride contest going forward lol
