Crankcase cover bolt

Ater a successful check of the valves at 48,000 with no adjustment needed we went to close and button up. I lapsed for a second and installed the crankcase cover bolt (the one that covers the bolt to turn the engine to determine TDC) and apparently cross threaded and then compounded the error by stripping the bolt itselef. Repeated tries with larger hexs and Torx's doesn't help but only makes it worse and it was torqued at only 12 n/m. So wagging my tail I am wondering if there are any fixes I might try or I am already ready to trailer it to the local dealer. Thanks from Marysville, WA

Helicoil. This isn't a critical item, just holds the over in place. go to NAPA for the necessaries.

Maybe try an impact driver to loosen the bolt and you might get away with just chasing (re-tapping) the hole with a tap and getting a fresh bolt.

Long story but I got the cover bolt out with the asssistance of a machinist frient. No damage to threads on either the bolt or the front cover. I was lucky!!
