Pulled this out of my 06 V-Strom today. Nasty looking thing. Original to the bike I believe. Changed out @10.880 miles. Bought the bike with 6700 miles in 12/2019. You would think or maybe not the dealer would have checked this out. Bike ran well with this in it should run a whole lot better now. OEM filter did it's job. Air box is pristine.

Good thing they didn't get inside the engine. One good rev and the cage behind you would have been blinded with bug splat! ;)

I bought my V Strom with an aftermarket exhaust system, and the PO gave me the OEM one, as well. I wanted a centerstand, so the Giannelli system had to go. After installing the OEM hardware, I fired the bike up and a fountain of pink arced15' out of my garage. Seems related critters had taken up residence in the muffler. Good thing the bike's exhaust was aimed out the door....

I had some small ground squirrels eat through my air filter. They were living underneath the pillion seat as well and chewed through some wires to the ecu. I could smell the urine when the bike got hot. Cleaned everything up, Fixed the wires, new filter Installed. I don’t smell it anymore.

If you're lucky they only eat and nest in the air filter and air box. The ones that eat the wiring are another story.

The air filter on my 09 Vstrom (bought new) collected bugs rocks and assorted stuff. I put screen mesh over the intake "snout" and eliminated pretty much all that undesired stuff.
