Hi,
I'm struggling to find a smaller than the standard windshield at the right price here in the UK, was thinking, is it possible to cut the original one down ? Thanks

I cut mine down years ago (bike is now gone)

basically used this procedure

Painter's tape to protect shield front and back, draw line where you want to cut on painters tape, jig saw with plastic cutting blade, trial cut in area you want to cut off, then cut on line, sand edge to finnish with block and sandpaper

I've used this procedure on FZ-1, ST 1300, FJR, CB 1100 and current NC 750X

Been cutting down shields for Harley’s for years.
After taping, cutting, etc. a horse shoe file works very well for clean cuts.
Then wet sand with 1500 grit paper, then polish with plastic cleaner polish.
This will leave you a glass clear edge (better than factory)
There is also a chemical to wipe the edge smooth, but it leaves a cloudy edge.
Your shields look good.

For starters you can remove the windscreen and try riding without it to see if you like it better that way. Otherwise, get an adjustable lip, play with the height (you want it below your eyesight so you can look over it) and the angle. Cutting the windscreen should be your last resort, since you can't reverse it.

I put a Puig adjustable flip on the STrom, very impressed with it.
They sell them with clips or bolts. I drilled and bolted.

I cut one down years ago Used the tape and a fine tooth blade. It comes up to the windscreen mounting "horns", about 8" (20cm).

How u manage without splitting a plastic
Or is strong enough
I made a pad to place at the rear of the screen whilst drilling the holes. It was a piece of plastic with some soft packing and duct tape wrapped around it. I wasn't convinced the plastic at the rear would break away. All four holes drilled well. Puig recommended a specialist plastic drill but I used a conventional high speed steel drill bit. I sharpen it beforehand but then drilled a piece of steel a few times to take the edge off.
I wasn't convinced the screen would be strong enough for a clip on fitting but many use them without drama.
It's definitely a mark 10 times drill once experience. If you went for Puig they supply a drill template for most screen shapes.
Good luck.

This shows my Puig flip on the aftermarket Loster screen.

Whilst it doesn't give the width of cover the MRA Vario did on my Pan the height cover is much superior. I would come back from rides on the Pan with my helmet covered in flies but on the STrom I rarely bring any unwanted detritus home. It is set so I can just see over it whilst riding.

Hi Punchy6538,

Yes that is possible.
I had mine made by a member of a dutch Pan-forum. He cut an original windscreen (without the air-vents) down to a 27cm high/low "summer"-screen. Just high enough to keep my tomtom-gps out of the wind.
I've added some before- and after photo's of my ST1100X.

Greetings, Bobke
