Front and Rear Suspension Upgrade - ST1100

Ok...I got a question.....Which would you choose??? Progressive 420, Progressive 465 or Works Pro??? All are available....getting confused too many to choose from.
 
If the progressive spring is the 850/1200 like on the st1300 that might matter to you.

Dave, The 420 has been replaced by the 465. Any "new" 420 is leftover stock. This came directly from a question to Progressive. I didn't ask about the differences because I was interested in the shortened version of the 420 and the 465 is not available in the shortened version. They did not offer any reason for discontinuing it in the 465 unit. Jim

Yes, I talked to Progressive and they told me that both are a much better improvement over stock and the 465 is newer technology, monotube and a bit better valving. Thanks!
 
I've checked out the Progressive site and they list the '465-1128' rear shock for the '99 (TCS/ABS) ST1100 but they don't list front springs for it.

I've seen the '11-1126' listed for all models to 1995 both non-ABS and ABS models.

What part number springs have people been using from Progressive for the later TCS/ABS models?
 
This hasn't been mentioned in this thread yet, but adjusting preload on these Progressives is a pita. You have to take the side cover off and you make like
1/4th of a turn with each turn of the ratchet - and you need at least 2-3 full turns to make up the difference of a passenger. It doesn't bother me as my wife is waiting for the Goldwing days and my son only weights 60 lbs, but something to think about. $367 is a great price.
 
I asked Progressive what the spring rate is, and the guy says it is 375/465 lbs/inch, and he thought that would be enough for my 250lb *** and my 90lb girlfriend or traveling gear. Anybody agree/disagree with that?

The progressive 465 is costing me $420, the oem replacement is $350,thats delivered,both coming from the USA, they are much more expensive in Europe.
My other oprions are hagon or wilbers,
I want to get this right,the progressive is coming from jc_motorcycles in California,ebay item number 130747942094
my stock shock is totally kaput,din't realise how bad it has got till today,need a replacement asap too.

HI, would you know the part number of the progressive fork springs you got? they don't list springs for the abs 11 model on their website.
they do list fork springs for the 95 abs model,

I bought the RaceTech "bible" a few years ago after acquiring my ST1100. They recommend straight-wound front springs ( not progressive). They have a spring rate chart at their website, BTW. According to it, the stock springs are perfect for a rider weighing ZERO pounds !! In other words, the stock springs are way too soft for any rider ( rate is rider weight dependent - use their chart).

I installed the Racetech front springs and Gold Valve & Emulator kit - Gold Valve on one side ( I think the right side ) and the emulator goes in the other side.

I went the cheap route on the rear with a Progressive 465 shock & spring combo ( newest version, not the old 420. Be careful, you can find the old 420's for sale on the net and the price is about the same for a 465 ) . Found one for under $400 on the net - can't remember where.

I also installed a MCL ( Motorcycle Larry ) front fork brace this season. SuperBraces aren't available, from what I found, BTW.

I'm satisfied with the results. I'm never on the track, mostly on the slab.

Thanks Jim, I am starting to lean towards the progressive 465 myself, it's not costing much more than the oem replacement and from what I can find out most people are happy with it.

because my bike is the abs 2 version I don't think it needs the forkbrace, but I will look into your suggestion for straight rate springs and revalving, might leave that till winter time,
just need a shock for now to get her roadworthy again.
