Front Brake Pads vs. Rear Brake pads

I am confused as to whether there is a difference between the ST1300's brake pads...front vs. rear. (Non-ABS)

Parts guy at Honda dealership says no diff (though I had to explain that I was inquiring about an ST1300...not an FP1300).

Cheap Cycle Parts online parts diagram shows two different part numbers (Front: 06455-MCS-G02, Rear: 06435-MCS-G02) and two different prices (Front: $44.38, Rear: $46.15)

No idea if these are Honda Part numbers or just Cheap Cycle Part's numbers...but it does appear that they are different.

The front and rear pads are different. Two Brothers sells them at $33.00 per set, $99.00 for all three, check it out...

For Pre-2008 bikes..

The aftermarket pads would fit front and rear... however, they recently changed them so the rear pads are thicker - to match the thicker OEM rear pads.

For 2008 and newer bikes..

The front caliper is bigger so they definitely need two different sized set of pads.

What's a FP1300 does that have the frappuccino machine?

I prefer the feel of the stock pads. The EBC pads are grabbier if you like that. My dealer sold me some other brand last year, Tour Master I think??, where the front and rears were the same. They didn't slide properly in the calipers and dragged enough that I could notice it at low speed. Took them back. Only Honda pads for me from now on!

My '05 ST13 is getting EBC pads and the rear is going to be the thicker pad. Ernie at Keel Brothers assures me this is ok. They are installed and appear to be fine. Issues?

Almost all of the brake pad related issues I've seen were from non-oem pads.

Bob, should you not have asked that before you bought and install the EBC pads? If they are already on the bike and they work fine I wouldn't worry about them no matter what Larry says...

At the time I wrote that I did not know if they'd be fine...except that I have a certain amount of trust in the Keel boys. As it turns out, several members have reported issues and I like knowing that. But thanks for asking.

Did about a 100 mile ride home from Keels...brakes are noticeably grabbier...not sure if I like or not. Not sure if that's just new brake pads or a true characteristic of the ebc pads. We'll see.

I also have an OEM set on order..if these suck, out they'll go and in with the OEM's.

You'll be fine LOL. You squeeze it stops what's not to love.
iirc there is now a thicker (optional) ebc pad for the rear or you can just use the same as the fronts.
If they suck let me know how much you want to ship em

I think this is what I got. You are correct...push on the brake, bike stops. I think its fully functional. Wonder why they offer a thicker pad...is it simply a longer service interval (which is a good thing)?

The OEMs have a thicker rear pad, I think they are only trying to match the OEM offering... but, the rear pads do seem to wear faster, in my case anyway, so perhaps Honda had a method to their madness.
