Has anyone pulled an ST1300 alternator?

When I replaced mine I was replacing all hoses and had the throttle body and radiator out, some say you can do it from the radiator area with it removed.
I'm going to try going through the radiator. And, Yes, I will change all the hoses and thermostat at that time.

Short cuts often take longer than any time they might save. Having changed out my alternator I'm thinking back to getting access to the necessary fittings when R & R my alternator and replaced all the hoses.

I have no desire to tinker with the throttle body tolerances and I have ALL winter to get the job done.

Although my only bad alternator was covered under the Honda Extended warranty, I have been in that area a number of times. And although you can get to it through the thermostat, it's a very tight fit and you'll still be replacing a bunch of hoses and a few o-rings.

A shot looking at the alternator. Note, the front wheel had been removed.

For an idea of what is in the way!

There really isn't an issue when removing the throttlebody. I have done it on 4 of the ST1300s I've owned (5, including the 2006 ST1300P I bought a few months ago). It would make your job (since you have all winter) much easier!

Agreed, pulling the throttle bodies isn’t as hard as it sounds. Undo the cables, disconnect the fuel line, a few electrical plugs and loosen the intake boot clamps.

The TB comes off and goes back on as a unit. There are no tolerances to tinker with but I suppose it could be damaged by lifting it off improperly.

I guess I'm just wondering why to extract a camel through the eye of a needle when you have all winter to come in from above and have access to everything? That's rhetorical, use the method that you see fit to use.

When removing the throttle body don't you have to unscrew the throttle body intake boot clamps at the top and bottom? Then when reinstalling the throttle body the intake boots have to go back on with 7mm and 10mm spacings correct?

Yes, you have to untighten the upper screws only. Get yourself a long flexible screw driver for that.

Check out this thread, I explain how I remove and replace the throttlebody.

R&R Throttlebody

Like everything, there are a number of ways to do something. This is how I found the best way for me.

Here is my contribution. It's a long thread but one might find some pics and ideas how to do it their own way.
