heated hand grips not very hot

If you do fit new ones, take a look at Oxford grips.

Troubleshooting makes sense though and is probably worth the time to diagnose the problem before you buy more gear.

Take a look at the wires and fuse for the heated grips and use a multi-meter to check for continuity going to the grips.

If they are aftermarket and not factory grips they could also be wired wrong. Do you know what brand of grips or inserts? They could be designed for parallel wiring and are wired in series. If so they will only have 1/4 of the heat they should have.

I can't see any maker's name at all, one is not very hot and the other is even less hot. probably it is quicker to fit a set of new ones instead of fiddling about for days with dodgy wiring.

Maybe post a picture of the grips and the controller. I remember seeing a Hondaline set on eBay recently. They are hotter than a firecracker.
They have 4 settings and I've only been able to use the 2 lower settings.

My heated grips are not very hot. Is it worth fiddling around or just fit new ones? I don't know what make you have in the USA, any suggestions?

To answer the question, Symtec grip heaters are very popular for just the heater under the grip which is what I have or very similar. I can't remember which I bought several years back.

I'm not sure that changing the grips without figuring out if they are improperly wired is a good idea. The only experience I have with heated grips is with my Oxfords, and wiring them was pretty straightforward. i would check over yours first. I would expect that one side or the other might fail, but not both at the same time. Your problem sounds like either a bad wiring or more likely a bad controller.

You might hook one side up directly to the bike (or the bike's battery) with a fuse in series. If the grip heats then it is probably the controller or the way you had them both wired. Then check the other. I don't know if one bad side would affect the other one, but checking them independently will tell you if they are good in a very short time.
