I've filled a CamelBak with ice in the morning and it lasted half the day. Yes I know why. But if it's hot enough that I have to consider heat countermeasures then it's time to stay inside with feet up and a tall lemonade.

Can the vest be bought without the pump and tank system? I have a 12 volt 1 amp Donjoy Iceman cold therapy machine that would easily provide circulation.

There used to be a vest that used quick connect fittings to hook up to a cooler full of ice and water. A pump circulated the water through tubes in the vest. It was called Veskimo. It is no longer made, but I'd think anyone could rig something up. Given the 100ºF+ temps across the southern states, something like this is almost necessary.

Anyone have experience with an ice vest?
I have a "phase change" vest from Techniche that works reasonably well under an Aerostich. Lasts 2-3 hours, about $140. Thing is, the mesh jacket/jeans combo is about as cool on the highway. Traffic the vest is better.

Get one of those solar pond pumps and drop it in the cooler with the water/ice mixture.

As soon as I saw this, the only thing that came to mind is the fountain installed on the tank, spraying back on the rider keeping him cool!

Get one of those solar pond pumps...
I wonder how long those last. It looks a lot like the water pump for a couple of tile saws that I've had. Those pumps do not last all that long, probably because of the grit from the cut tile. However, these pumps do not strike me as a long lived item. My guess is that a year or two is an optimistic guess and it is not repairable.
