"My first battery was a Yuasa YTZ14S with a honda wing logo on it. No other information apart from the charge rate. That is the one with the red labelin the photo below. 11.8Ah (20HR) / 230 CCA. This is shown in the middle photo alongside its cardboard box."
-11.2Ah at 1/10 rate and 230CCA is the standard battery here. Some aftermarkets were listed at 290cca
The 11.8 at 1/20 rate doesn't tell you much more than the constant for Peukerts law.
In this case 1.081
IOW at 1.12amps your battery capacity is 11.2Ahr c. 300 minutes to a 50% drained state of charge.
At 1amp 11.3Ahr 339 minutes to 50%
At 10amps your battery capacity is now rated at 9.37Ahr and is 50% drained in 28 minutes. Not 33.9 minutes.
"Their other version of the YTZ14S here doesn't quote a cold start value."
- That is listed as a TTZ not YTZ14S "CCA n/a" huh?
Maybe that's yuasa's way of dumping (politically correct "binning") a ytz that doesn't pass muster while being charged?
