Riding my ST everyday has led me to find a way to secure the Escort 8500 X50. I found I didn't have the time to mess with the detector and the cords. I was using the ram magnectic base and a mixit to get the alerts in the helmet. Riding day in day out for short and long rides I needed something that was secure and didn't tie me the bike.

I got the led alert from Marc Parnes and I like it so far, I put the dectector in the right glove box that stays locked. I think its a good trade off, its secure, out of the weather so its being used in wet conditions and I can get off the bike without securing anything. My GPS is in a locking touratech mount too. Its made life as a daily rider much less of a ordeal getting everything ready..

We will see how much it gets my attention, its gota be better than having the dector live in the top box.... and its out of sight for Virgina. oPoST1:

Sagedrifter - what limitations do you find when mounting the RD in the glove box? I would think it woul dimpact the X, K and Ka band sensitivity and totally block laser. Do you find that to be true? Also, do you mount it in th ebox level and shooting forward just like you would if it were outside the glove box?

I have my V1 in the glove box on my 1100. The impact on radar sensitivity is very small. Radio waves travel through plastic just fine. As long as there's no signficant amount of metal in front of the glove box it's not an issue.

It does, of course, totally block lidar detection. But a Lidar warning is really just a notice to slow down and get ready to pull off, because you just got nailed.

So far it goes off just fine, it warned me this morning, state trooper. It seems to reach out good enough. I'll see how it does on the highway tomorrow, I have a 400 mile day planned. I've had it the right glove box for a week in city mode. Its level and secured on the right side of the glove box up off the plastic bottom a bit with velcro holding it in place.

I've got it powerd through my relay triggered fuse block. So, its always ready to go and turns off with the bike.

The led's are working great, I'm glad I went with it.

I've had these LEDs for over a year now and they work very well. They must aim right at your eyeballs for maximum effect and they do wash out with the sun behind you. I stuck mine ot the top of my Escort 8500 which is mounted on the dash (see "Best Radar Detector Mount" thread above) The angle is perfect. I prefer to ride un-wired so this is the best solution I've found. Other than slowing down.
