MD: Tag

Hey, look! I got the tag up without getting sniped this time. :)

Joining me on the ride today was Jack on the Joyinator. It was cloudy and drizzly up at the top of the mountain, and we could barely see the wind turbine. But this is the spot.

Since it's difficult to find a good spot to park that gives the location away, here's a hint: This is a fort near a big pool.

Yeehaw! What a great day to ride out to Fort Frederick state park. Nice spot Mark, didn't realize it would be a pay to play tag! They charge Virginians $5 to get in. But it was bargain to look around this neat little historical treasure of a place with no crowds except for a handful of Civil War re-enactors who were happy to show off their gear.

Oh, so not much imagination or distance in moving this tag. But DAM, I sure hope somebody goes after it within the next couple of weeks as it will be a pretty spot with the fall leaves. \

Finally!

OLD: Devil's Backbone County Park outside Boonsboro, MD (thanks for the hint, Steve... even though the park was officially closed today so I couldn't reach the exact parking spot you used.)

NEW: This is a lovely "Inn" spot, a real "Peach(tree)" of a place to "loaf" with your "Sugar".

Bonus (NOT the tag): Sharpsburg, MD (aka "Antietam") remembers those who made the ultimate sacrifice or, as Lincoln put it "...the last full measure of devotion" on Memorial Day Sunday 2015

Well... It wasn't where I thought it was. Or my game plan to be in the DC area at 4am got the better of me and I missed it in the dark. Tried to move this away from the tourist traps and city traffic.. Oh well. Maybe someone braver than I will nab it.

Had planned to move it here

Sorry 'bout that. Where were you thinking it was (is)?

It's actually 40 or 50 miles outside DC, in a small Maryland town where the bloodiest one-day battle in U.S. history took place, September 1862. Unless you count the National Military Park and its associated cemetery (hint) as tourist traps, this town is not really so intimidating to get to or ride through. Or maybe because I live in the area I'm just less sensitive about it -- I dunno.

Anyhow- sorry again you missed it.

Your tag, now with free scaffolding:

Stopped across the street because the shoulders around the track entrance are a no stopping zone and they had an event going on today.

The bike and I had a nice ride together. Found a short ribbon of deliciously fresh blacktop on Route 9 from Hillsboro to the WV state line.

I found your park and I moved it down the road just a bit to another park.

Don't wait too long.:)

Well yeah.. nerSteve is back home but how long will that last? And Mac is in motion once again... are YOU headed this way, too? Anyone else heading toward LobstahSTOC from below the Mason Dixon Line might also choose to have a go...

I was thinking of this evening, actually. Incentive to finish up the yardwork quickly.

Okay here we go.

OLD: Doub's Meadow Park on MD 17 just off US 40 between Frederick and Hagerstown:

I had to ride out to Hagerstown today and figured its been awhile since I got any tags in. I tell you what, an ice cream stop in Middletown on a Saturday afternoon is a busy place!

FYI- the tag is this sign with the scale monument. The original Washington Monument is quite neat and worthwhile.
