2009 ST1300.

I haven't lost the lid yet (maintenance cover (LID, L. MIDDLE COWL)) but I'm planning to replace the plastic push pin (CLIP, BODY 90683-MBW-003) with a metal trim clip and screw.

I have purchased the Hillman #8 J shaped trim clip but the flat portion of the clip is too long to fit the location.

Does anyone have manufacturer part number or EBay or Amazon link for a metal trim clip that fits? I'm not having any luck with search results in the forum.

Thanks.

Do you have any idea how many different clips Hillman sells? Could not find a Hillman J clip. I'm not clear what you want to do, but perhaps a Tinnerman clip below and a black screw coming down through the removable cover?

I bought the standard Oem clips. I always keep a few handy. It wasn't perfect - I had to splay out the sides to make the opening a bit wider, but it has stayed in place, I also bought the domed hex socket screw that is used for the removable side panel on the ST1100.

Clip 90312 MT3 000
Screw 90103 MT3 000

The screw isn't a shoulder bolt, but mine has to go through the fairing extension as well.

Years ago, someone had a mod that used a taper pin between the faring and lid, but I couldn’t find it when I went back to a ST1300.

FWIW the Honda part #90116-MCS-G00 is long enough to secure the lid and heat deflector if so equipped. Installed properly it will not fail or fall out. I took a series of pictures and posted them in this forum showing how they passed through the lid and deflector and protruded out into the interior space. They do get brittle over time and may lose one of the "leaves" that expand when the pin is clicked into place.... during the 180,000 miles I rode my '05 I did replace them once or twice.

Yes, Hillman has 9 J clips, listed as "J-Type Speed Nut" in their catalog. Sorry for the incorrect term "J clip".

What I want to do is replace the plastic push pin (CLIP, BODY 90683-MBW-003) with a metal trim clip and screw. (See the OP)

Do you have any idea how many different clips are referenced in your link to a "Tinnerman clip"? There are at least 20 different boxes of various types of clips in various sizes. Do they fit? Who knows? That's why I asked "Does anyone have manufacturer part number or EBay or Amazon link for a metal trim clip that fits?"

Thanks for your response.

Your response led me to the trim clips (there are 4) which hold the rear fender in place. I should have remembered seeing them on the rear fender and around the fairing pockets.

I'm going to remove the rear fender this morning and see if the trim clip will fit. If so, it's off the Honda dealer to pay an arm and a flipper for 2 of these clips.

Cheers
