Motad collector box blowing…..

Hi everyone,

I’ve got my pan up and running! Ill update the restoration thread soon….however, I’ve got exhaust issues.

The silencers to the collector box are a snug fix with OEM Honda gaskets, but the down pipes are a different story.

Theres a 1mm difference in the inner diameter on the collector box and the outer diameter of the downpipes - this means it is blowing like mad where the downpipes slip into the collector box and popping/banging on the overrun. Definitely not what I want!

Can anyone advise whether there should be a fixed gasket in there, or did Motad supply them with a sealing paste when new?

I heard there were two sizes of downpipes/collector box joints to watch out for. Looks like you'll have to slap on some 'Gun Gum'.

If it's only 1mm size difference I wouldn't think there would be a gasket that would fit. As Sir Roger says, you need some of that exhaust paste that hardens when the GoblinCycle is warmed up.

Wrap the small one with heat tape and then goop.

Or take to a muffler shop and have them expand the downpipes.

I did actually consider taking them to a local engineers at one point yesterday to have them expanded, but figured I’d try the less…aggressive
sealant paste route first.

Fingers crossed it works!

Two sizes? That’s just irritating!
