You are getting all kinds of travel suggestions. Here is mine. Be mindful of the weather in Colorado. It is still early in the season and there is a likely hood of it snowing in the High Country. Be prepared for snow or unusually hot weather. It can change in 10 mins. DAMHIK. One never knows this time of year in the High Country. Check with C-Dot when you traverse the Colorado Mountains. The following pictures were taken at the end of May a few years back going over Wolf Creek Pass. Freak snow storm that blew in, in about 10 min. Have a fun and safe trip. I see you will be going right thru Wichita Falls. 11 years of my life was spent there. Would like to get them back.

Thanks Chuck. I'm preparing for temps anywhere from 40°-100°F along my route, although I wasn't planning on bringing my heated gear. Yeah, I have to ride through WF all the time to get to the good stuff, rarely stop there.

Working on my route home. For my Day 2 route (Sunday), every time I look at Hwy 50 south of Lake Tahoe, there seems to be a lot of traffic, thus I'm planning to take 88 around it. Is this reasonable?

Ill second that! Hit a station on fumes on 50!And it is a proper ST to boot!
Just watch your gas on Highway 50 - there can be some long stretches without gas and without much of anything else!

I like 88 way more than 50, although I last went through in July and fires went through in August, so some of the scenery is probably not very scenic these days. There are limited and expensive fuel stops/services between the foothills and Nevada, and cell service disappears shortly after Kirkwood.
But based on that link, it seems like you'd be leaving SAC early. Are you checking traffic at the expected day/time you'd go through? I only ask because the view from the east side of Lake Tahoe from 50 is a million times nicer than riding through on the flats below, and it's not 24/7 traffic jams.

After 5 trips between Cedar City and Elk Grove Kaliforniastan (10 miles south of Sacramento), I can tell you a couple of things.
1. Going up US50 from Sacramento, there is some construction just east of US99. It's about 10 miles worth...I think). If you hit it during rush hour, it will be a mess.
2. US50, before US89 (to go catch US88 east) there are several areas where they are taking out a bunch of burned out trees. You can be delayed anywhere from 15minutes to 1/2 hour, plus or minus a few minutes.
3. If you are going to Ely, NV, Via US50, there is not much gas between Fallon, NV and Ely, and it is about 260 miles. I'm not sure what your range is on a ST1100, but I had a little left over, when I was riding between them on my 2012 ST1300 (heading west in 27F weather.)
Good luck, it should be an enjoyable ride, if you don't push yourself too much!

For Day 2, I plan on getting gas when I start in Cameron Park (well east of SAC), then 187 miles later in Fallon, then 180 miles later in Eureka, and then I finish in Ely. There are several gas stations before Fallon, and one two (Middlegate, Austin) between Fallon and Eureka if I get nervous.

I got gas in Austin last year, but these are small-towns and hours of operation could be a factor.

Thanks for that, I missed the station in Austin. Will use that as a bail out instead of Middlegate.

The other route highway 4 over Ebbetts pass is absolutely spectacular as well.
