I just put money down on this Yamaha over at Moon Motorsports in Monticello, MN. Hope to pick it up Friday.
My standard buying-from-a-dealer request of "Now that we are best friends, how much money can you knock off the cost?" was meet with uproarious laughter. Still not a buyer's market, I guess.

I really like the color. Looks like a matte finish, or at least a satin finish.

I almost visited Moon Motorsports when looking for one of my past bikes. We exchanged a few emails about it.

Seems like the 2016's are glossy blue and the 2018's are a flat blue. I'm happy with either but don't know just now what I'd prefer. I'll find out on Friday when I can see both (not that it will change my mind since the miles 5885 vs. 51,000 are more important to me than the paint finish).

Here's what it looks like from a Cycle World article:

What top box is that?
Sorry, I don't know. Can't tell from the picture and I'll not see it live until Friday. I'm glad it has one but don't really care which brand. Don't think it's a Givi or Shad. Could be a Yamaha case but the rear view isn't close enough to make out the tuning forks.

Congrats great bike. Had one just like it for 2 years and nearly 40,000 miles. Miss it a lot sometimes. Shaft, heated grips, cruise control, 145 hp lol

so they come with an auto tranny too??

I find the seat is too wide for flat footing. But this thing is faster than the ST (Pan)
Congrats!
I think the AS and AE variants are the auto ones, I presume it's a DCT type set up. Someone will know.

Yes, they are available with a DCT type transmission since 2006. Jevers

After owning 32 motorcycles, the FJR that I bought new in 06 was, hands down, the best bike I've ever owned! Now, after finally getting an 06 ST, I can compare. I was told by a salesman that if you want speed and handling, go with the FJR. If you want smoothness and comfort, go with the ST. He was spot on. I like both of these bikes but I will be owning another FJR in the near future. Congrats and enjoy that beautiful bike! Maybe I will see you on the road here in Minnesota sometime next month . Congrats on the new ride. That is the Yamaha OEM top box.......... from what I gather, it does not come in the matte blue.

I concur, that does look like the same top box I had on my 06, just looking at its distinctive shape. Jevers

Congrats! I switched from ST1300 to a 2016 FJR ES myself a few years ago. I am very happy about the switch - both are very capable bikes, but the fun-factor on the FJR makes a difference to me. Right after the switch I described the difference as sitting on the FJR, while sitting in the ST (i.e. being more integrated with the bike). As far as comfort goes, I can actually go longer on my FJR than I could on my ST, but that could easily be the seat - I had a custom seat from the previous owner on my ST that I never really liked. Your topbox is the OEM 39L. Yamaha also makes a 50L version which holds two helmets and more...
