I saw an ad today advertising that Michelin will release a new sport touring tire on 1/1/22. The Road 5s are two years old now but the Pilot Road series hasn't been updated in 7 years. Hopefully prices will fall on the Road 5s but they will remain in the line up.

Hopefully this new tire brings prices down on Pilot Road 4s and Road 5s or at least blunts supply chain-induced price increases in 2022.

The Road 6 looks to be evolutionary and not revolutionary.

How often has that happened? My guess is the new tires will have the standard 'new and improved' price, making the older ones even more popular.

For my RT the Road 5 holds a higher price than a Pilot Road 4 as we speak and has since the 5 was released. When the Road 6 is the flagship tire the 5 could assume the same relationship to the 6 as the PR4s do to the 5.

Let's hope so.

Just talked to a Michelin sales rep at my local store. He was wearing a Road 6 back pack lol. Anyhow he said they added more silicone or silica? for the Road 6's enhancing longevity and wet weather grip.

Looking forward to the reviews from those . . . who ride them first.
The add in Post #2 excites all my tire desires!

Thread pattern looks a bit like the Pirelli Angels...
The Angels are very good tires with many satisfied riders as are Michelins. The tread design at first glance may look similar but beyond the superficial there are huge differences in the comparison.

The increased longevity claims of each new generation of tire have never really panned out for me. For years each new generation generally has claimed ~10% more tread life over the previous generation.

By now I should be getting twice the tire life, but I always seem to get about the same as I always did, ~10,000 km on the rear and ~16,000 on the front.

In the small print Michelin provides quantitative test information behind the claims. As always, the individual rider's results may vary.

My Road 6GT now has 7,885 miles on it. Not bad at all. I have a set of Dunlop RS3s and Bridgestone T32s to try out still but these are doing great. Not sure how many miles are left and I'll probably have to take them off early for a long trip but will keep a log for when I put them back on.

For comparison this is the 5GT with 7500 miles. I carry more gear and ride a different bike, but similar riding styles. The 6 seems to have more life left than the 5. 82E985BB-7A8F-470F-8256-23B5929BF042.jpeg

Thanks.. it's close... a bit more cupping on the 5 but doesn't appear to be a huge difference.

I get 12-13,500 miles out of the R5 rear non GT on my RT and very nearly smooth wear. I don't get the same mileage out of the fronts at 10-11,000 and they can have some minor scalloping. I have a Road 6 front waiting to try out. The 6 front has the hard compound underlying the edge of the tread that was missing on the Road 5s. I anticipate the 6 will wear a little better in regards to scalloping. I run higher pressures than BMW recommended in the manual. 38-40 F and 40-42 R.
