After 30 years, I am no longer a ST 1100/1300 owner. I have been through a '91 ST1100 , a "95 ST1100/ABS and a 2003 ST 1300 /ABS with well over 300k miles combined. I refuse to go Goldwing, instead, I decided to go to a much lighter, but comfortable.
The bike is a 2021 Yamaha Tracer 9 GT, 485 lbs wet, 890 cc, 117 HP, 69 ft/lbs torque.2021 Yamaha Tracer 900 GT 2.jpg2021 Yamaha Tracer 900 GT 2.jpg2021 Yamaha Tracer 900 GT 2.jpgand cooler, It has been great sharing information with the people on this forum, and will continue to be a member, just in the background.

Congratulations on your new ride. I sold my much loved ST1300 in 2015 and also moved to a BMW. I still try and actively participate in this forum.

Most STOC events I have been to in the last few years less that 50% of the riders are on ST1100 / ST1300.

IMHO it is about the riding not the ride.

... instead, I decided to go to a much lighter, but comfortable and cooler, bike.
Congrats on your new bike.

And... what did you bought ? I'm looking at the picture, trying to read the small caracters.
I recognise the Yamaha logo and... Tracer.... X ? Is this the 900 cc ?
It's still a touring bike,
What is the weight ? Let me see... 210 kg / 462 lbs !
And what kind of engine ? Oh, I see... inline three cylinders. 12 valves (4 by cylinder).
hum...
As much power, less weight, newer machine.

congrats. You will enjoy the weight or lack of it.

I moved from my ST 1300 to an FJR down to a NC750X DCT. Miss the abundant power of my 1300's but happy with the little NC none the less, and really enjoy how light it is.

The engine is fabulous, one of the best in motorcycling, imo. I've read that Yamaha addressed the handling deficiencies my 15 FZ09 had. Good choice.

Great bike!

Are there other options for the panniers when you purchase the bike new or do you have to gut these if you want to install your own?

What Tracer site are you going to follow?

Would be looking at the Tracer 7 but not coming to the US it seems, probably to avoid competing with their Tenere 700. But the 700 seems to be twitchy in cross-winds though, not ideal for riding through our Texas Plains. Would be interested in how yours performs in windy condition. The ST is quite good for that.

Is Yamaha taking advantage of the limited supply and going full MSRP on these or did you find there is some flexibility on their side?

Congratulations on the new bike. I hope it delivers many miles of smiles and memories.

Edit to add it's possible to go Goldwing for long distance two up comfort and still go lighter and comfortable. The two are not mutually exclusive but one must have room for two bikes.

I myself just parked my 95 ST1100 and purchased a new bike last weekend. It was a tough decision though and I just about racked my brain trying to decide between a Tracer 900 GT or a Triumph Scrambler 1200 EX. After a week of trying to decide my wife made the decision for me and I'm the proud owner of a Triumph Scrambler. After a 50 mile ride home from the dealership, I found out that I was no longer a 16-year-old boy and had to purchase a windshield for it that same evening. Love your bike and it's a beautiful one at that. Ride safe or ride fast and take your chances.. Whichever suits your preference!

The more I dig around on info on the Tracer 9 GT, the more my interest is going up. Jeez, it has cruise control too. :)

I would be interested to know what are the deficiencies of the FJ09. In Ontario, it seems that on Kijiji you see very low mileage 2016 FJ09s for about half the cost of a new tracer.
