WHile a far cry from my ST 1100, I have an opportunity to pickup a 1982 XT 550 with 6500 miles on it for 300$. This is a well maintained and cared for bike. Can't afford a quad so something to go off road with when the spirit strikes me. ANybody know these machines and have an idea if the price is reasonable?

Forgot to mention it is a Yamaha XT 550 (1982).
My background is dirt bikes. Don't know of that particular model. Key concern for me would be availability of parts for a 1982 bike. I would evaluate the purchase based on how much enjoyment I would get from the bike before it needs its first part replaced.
They were and are good "thumpers"......lot of torque and will lug around very well!
