Stella was only 3 weeks old when she moved into our home 13 years ago so Brenda bottle fed her for weeks. We think she was a cross between a Lab and a long haired black dachshund - think of a 40 lb low rider with thick, wavy, black fur. She was diagnosed with cancer 5 months ago. She led a good life and was a good dog. No more pain old girl.

So sorry for you loss. It is especially hard when we lose our beloved pets. They give so much back to us it breaks our hearts when they are hurting or are gone.

Sorry to hear about your dog.
I’m sure he had a good life with you and your wife.

This gave me comfort when we lost our dear Daisy three years ago:

I said then that I’d never go through that again, but we now have a wonderful lady black lab named Scout.
Now that one almost brought a tear to MY eye! Been there three times with three lovely golden retrievers, Meg, Katie and Baxter and number four, Mandy, is now 5 years old. Even harder to take than the loss of my parents, it seemed.

Another quote, which I certainly hope is a possibility goes - " If there are no dogs in heaven, then I want to go where they went when I die." Can't remember the author of that one.

Takes a long time to get past the pain of losing these dear friends.

John, Thanks for your post even though it undid me. I knew this morning would be hard. The spot under the table where I read my devotions and pray was her place. Always there and always ready to start the day. I would see her disappointment when I began to dress in motorcycle gear and see her happiness when I reached for walking shoes.

Really, thank you everyone. Each and every thought is your life shared with me and that means a lot. We are not meant to do this thing called life alone.
