I'm gonna get some "Boooo's" for this report --- but FYI

I just put on a new rear PR3 7/10/14.
It replaced my previous PR3 that got a small "brad" type nail stuck in it in the fall of 2012 with only 500 miles on it.
I plugged the tire with the Stop & Go Tire Plugger (mushroom type), kept checking it frequently, kept an eyeball on it.
The tire went 15,800 miles on the plug with no problem. It was pretty well worn out, not so bad in the center, but had hit the wear bars on the left of center side.

Start yelling at me now :D

Lol, no yelling from me. I have ridden thousands of miles on plugged tires myself.

Have been plugging anything and everything for decades, including family and coworker vehicles. Plugs for me have been uber reliable and I've long since stopped worrying about speed or tire longevity.

You did what? Did you not realize you were destined to die a fiery aluminum and plastic death due to that plug?

Just kidding.

I had to plug my PR3 last year in Cortez Colorado while on my annual trip. I was nervous about it but there was not much choice at the time. I checked that tire regularly and can report no adverse effects. I carry a plug kit on my bike and I am not afraid to use it.

The problem and the solution.

I'm just amazed you got 15,800 miles out of a PR3. I just took them off one of my ST1100s and they were toast at less than 4,800 miles. Badly cupped and down to the wearbars. Inflation was 42/42.
It is all in the wrist U.P. :D

I got just over 9300 from my set of PR3s. The front was close to worn so it got replaced at the same time. I doubt i would have gotten 15,000 but I likely would have gotten close to a few more thousand but it would not have been pretty. As it is, the front is in the stack in the back corner as a "just in case" spare.

I just took off PR3 (yesterday) with 300 miles on it because screw went in under angle ( not perpendicular ). Was thinking to fix it from the inside since Dinaplug didn't hold air. I don't want to throw it away - it's a new tire...
any suggestions?

Thanks UnclePhil. It was #6 self tapping screw, same as used for Sheetrock fastening. I'll have it patched and keep the tire as spare. I bought Michelin Commander 2 and it's on bike now. I wonder how that one holds.

I'd use a rasp or drill to round the hole, insert a Tech brand 222 or similar plug, or take a plug-patch and cut the plug off, then trim the inside flush, buff for a patch and patch over the damaged area. then trim the outer portion once cured.
I'd not do any long high-speed runs in 100 degree heat, but I'd ride that until the tire wore out.
Which reminds me ... I need better patch glue, the non-flammable stuff is horrible. I think they are doing worse now than when I sold the stuff back in the 90's.

+1 UP. That's the exact mileage I got out of my last PR3 rear. Throttle issue, curvy mountain roads, or both? Wouldn't know how to act if I got 15k out of a tire!
