I was out riding yesterday when I came across a silver and blue version of this on the road. Came up from behind and couldn't figure out what it was until I came up along side of it. Really neat bike.

A R100RS
I had one in 1988 if I remember correctly.
That appears to be an earlier one, as it still had the old style cast rims.
Nice bike.

They are really neat bikes. If the paint was original a blue over silver one was a 1979 R100RS. The white one pictured is a rare 1978 R100RS Motosport special edition. It was a special edition only available that year. Only first year 1977 RS models had wire spoke wheels. BMW offered as an option a new aluminum tubeless “snowflake” wheel but due to supply problems very few ‘77s had them. Snowflakes were standard 1978 - 1986

There never was an R80RS but an R80RT appeared in 1983. The fairing and windscreen of a RT are larger for better wind protection.
