ST 1300 2004
On Thursday May 31, 2007 I received A reply from Kieth Ost kost@avovmotorcycleusa.com of Avon he stated [At the present time Avon does not have A STORM ST tire rated for the ST1300 but has A rear tire in development.] They have a tester in the UK who is putting the specially constructed tires through their paces.
Could this be the tire for the ST:bow1:

It's not up to Mr. Ost or even Avon. It's Honda that will recommend the tire for ST1300 fitment if they choose to. Avon already have a rear tire RATED for the ST1300, it's the AV56. It meets the requirements for size, load range, and speed rating Honda sets forth in the owner's manual, the Honda Service manual, and on the DOT sticker Honda places on the frame. It's been run by many ST owners, including myself.

Ken,

I too have been in contact with Avon about the lack of information available on their web site. Here is the latest response from earlier today.

"Dear Sir,

Thank you for your understanding. I have conveyed your point of view which
concurs with mine about at least showing the front as an approved fitment.
We will also be proactive in letting ST1300 owners know as soon as we have
the approved fitment and I'll ponder a way to indicate on our website that
we are working on a tire such as under development. The Azaro is also not
approved for the ST1300 (again the European stability issue at high speeds)
and that was removed from our list.

When you mention warranty I am not sure if you are talking about our road
hazard warranty or regular warranty. I have attached the road hazard info.
Other than that if something happens to a tire that shouldn't, such as a
bubble, tread separation, out of round we handle these on a case by case
basis on our 800 line taking into account mileage, tread depth, rider usage,
etc.

Avon's difficulty with this bike is trying to create a tire that can resolve
the bike's stability issues which would much better be resolved by fixing
the bike. Trying to build a tire to fix the problem is a backwards method
but since Honda built the bike that way we're stuck with it. You are right,
it is not the tires, it is the bike but we have to build a tire that will
pass the test.

Best regards,

I think when she makes the point about the "stability issue" not being the tire is a key point. I wish them luck on trying to solve a problem that is most likely the result of extras added to the factory bike.

That does sound bogus didn't it? That Avon rep authoratively states the bike has a stability issue, yet did Avon actually perform their own tests to come to this conclusion? Probably not. So how are they supposed to develop and test a tire for an issue that is reported, but not validated by their own Engineers? Sounds like it's a political thing for sure.
