We had dinner with one of the first generation of graduates from the Sustainable Cambodia benefit. Dave told us Visa is like the poster child for Sustainable Cambodia. Here is as many of us as I could gather for this shot with Visa (left) and her mother (center).

Here is the big orientation dinner that we had tonight.

Had a bit of work done, two sets of brake shoes, new chain and sprockets, front brake cable and the two front signal sockets. $18 total plus $1 tip.

They took me right in like it was a Daytona pit stop.

I wanted knobby tires but he indicated a few rust through spots on the spoke area of both rims and offered to swap them both out and mount tires.
Dean, RFC disorganizer, told me to take it back to the place I bought it and they'll replace the rims. Hope I can get the tires there too to save another RR of both wheels. Here is Joes bike with knobbies and getting a new chain and sprockets.

I just posted a bunch of pics on my FB. I'll get'em all up to Picasa eventually.

Danny and Joe on Hondas (remains to be seen if Danny will keep his current ride), Raven and I on 110 Suzukis, hers nearly new. Most on Daehlims, a Honda knock off with less than perfect reliability. We've pretty much all got new knobbies and some tune up. I got chain, sprockets, tars, tubes, oil change, and rear brake shoes for $47. Took about an hour while several other bikes were getting the same treatment. Basically assembly-line pit stop. Shops are everywhere and well equipped for these small bikes.

At $47 George must not have opted for synthetic oil. :D I'll bet George's wheels in his head are turning figuring out how many miles he could cover in Cambodia for what he spends over here in a year on maintenance and fuel.

Sorry to hear the Hondas aren't more reliable. How far are you guys from where they were purchased? Was there any implied warranty when you purchased them?

Many of those bikes over there have more miles than your family car when you trade it, and have been rebuilt several times. Just like anything used...sometimes you lose the gamble. At least the repairs are cheap!

I had a pair of solid aluminum rims installed on my Dream. These rims had a fresh coat of gloss black and much of the side walls were also laquered. :)

The evidence points strongly toward this point: The pics and video we get to you folks back home is nothing compaired to what we wish the camera was ready for.
George and I got turned around in traffic going to the mechanic and got separated in traffic on our return. My solo ride back would have made an awesome video if I had that set up. I used all of my dusty Manhattan bicycle messenger skills while enjoying just going with the flow. The road ends at construction and busy sidewalks fills that void.

We'll get packed up soon and be on our way to Siem Reap and Ankar Wat. Plan 3 nights there with day rides to the surrounding area. This is a change from the original route, there are 3 or 4 groups out on varying routes. All good.

Joe, Raven, and Danny say "HI" too (or haiku, if you prefer. :D)

We rode to Siem Reap (350km). Pot holes and construction got better as we distanced ourselves from Phnom Penh. Raven booked nice room and navigated too! We had to brake hard for a few cows. Danny fouled a plug and the local mechanics had him going in short order.

Well, we made it to The Home Sweet Home Hotel in Siem Reap after a hot rough and dirty ride with a few minor issues. The doorman at Phenom Penh said he rode the same 300+ Km ride in a day once...never again. I enjoyed it for the constant activity on the road. Always something to watch out for, always something to see, but I can understand a non LD scooter rider not enjoying all the drama of construction, animals darting out, fires, traffic, thick dust and smoke.
We are tired but George managed a run around the neighborhood before taking his shower. Again, there were a number of times I wish the camera or video was ready for the shot.
Raven did a great job of navigating us to the Hotel and if it weren't for my bike needing a new spark plug at about noon today, we would have arrived in daylight.:)

Looks amazing! Did Danny forget his knobbies? .
With all the hassles of getting my rims replaced, I decided to go with the two good road tires with a bit of an open tread pattern that were on the rims that they gave me. They were fine today which means they'll be fine for the rest of the two weeks.
