Road 5 or 6 GT

Does anyone have a good U.S. source for Michelin 5 or 6 GT's these days in the 120/70/18 front rim size ?

I can find non GT or 17's but cant find 18 GT's. I have checked all of the usual vendors (Revzilla, JP etc).

Need a match for the 5 GT I just put on my ST 1300 that took a nail. Had 4's that needed change anyways. So far I have one - the rear.

Not sure why this is such a difficult size to find ??

It's time for me to get new shoes too.
Read up on the new 6 GT's, they're supposed to last a little longer and better on cold/wet.

Are you certain they make a 6 GT in that size?
I'm at their site now, put in the size info and only ONE tire shows up - the non GT version.

I like Motosport for buying tires but last February 2022 and February 2023 Cycle Gear had a sale with free mounting so I’m set for the immediate future.

I just bought a set this week on Wednesday (not for an ST but for a GSA) from American Moto Tire and they were cheaper than Motosport. They shipped for free and were at my door today (3 days).

I just fitted a 6 to the front, I’m on my 2nd 6GT on the rear. I think the 10% mileage may even be true. The 5GT an the front lasted around 15k, rear 6GT 10k. That threw off my 2/1 in good way. As far as I know there is no GT size for the front of an ST.

Oddly the tire I bought last year is “different” from the one I bought this year. The compound seems different and it “feels” different. See picture, the one with the blue line is sticky to the touch, the other is slick. The blue line is the newest.

I bought a set of Road 6's last year and I live in the PNW. In the last 10 months, I've ridden over 11000 miles. I ride year round unless there's snow or ice on the ground, and there's plenty of rain here in this area. The Road 6 is great in the wet and that was my primary decision for this tire in my region. Very confidence inspiring. I purchased Road 6 GT's in the rear, and the 'standard' Road 6 up front because they don't make a GT for the front in the size needed. I would buy another set again if I had too! They're very sticky. For what it's worth, the Washington State Patrol use the same tires on their BMW RT's. Everyone has an opinion on their preferred tire; just get what you think you need based on your regions weather and road condition, and whether you ride 2-up or not. Then ride the bike like it's stolen and have fun!

Historically GT for big bike & potential 2-rider + gear.

I used to ride with Pilot Road 4 GT but I am having trouble finding replacements in 4GT or upgrades in 5GT or 6GT.

It seems there are size limitations, especially in the 18” front.

I can’t find any 18” GT front tires
I found 170/60 ZR17 Road5GT but can’t find a 6GT

You can get a front 5GT but they are out of stock currently, so I defaulted to a 4GT

The Road 6 is even approved by Michelin in Germany.
We certainly have some of the toughest regulations to get a vehicle approved for public use.
If I have to go to the technical inspection every 2 years, is a regulation here, and would show up there with a 180 or passenger car tire on the rear wheel rim, the inspector suffers a heart attack.
LED lighting is prohibited because the headlight has no technical inspection for it.
Heli-bar handlebar riser the same, you get with 100 examiners maybe accepted by one.

I was initially hesitant that the width of the tire would be too much. I searched on this forum and found many other people have gone to the 180 in the rear and liked it. The GT is necessary for the rear due to not only the overall curb weight of the bike, but more the forces applied to the tire while accelerating and decelerating. The weight of the bike plus the force applied makes the GT on the rear recommended. I called revzilla and spoke to a tire specialist there and he was certain this would be the sizes to go with for that tire. He was very knowledgable and got real nerdy about it. I bought the tires from my local cyclegear shop and Michelin had a rebate program when you mail them a reciept/proof of purchase. I would buy another set without any hesitation.

I live in T-Town (Tacoma) and looking to get new tires for my ST1300. I was looking at Michelin's web site and they didn't have 180 60 R17 for the Road 6 GT. They show a 180 55 R17 for the Road 6 GT. Can you please verify your rear tire for me?

Let me take a look and confirm for you. For us here in the PNW, these tires are amazing. WSP uses these on their bmws and they love them as well. Let me take a look and I’ll get back to you on the sizes this afternoon.
