2018 VStrom 1000XA
After 3 years of owning my 2012 ST1300 I finally sold it and bought a 2018 VStrom 1000 XA model. I found the weight and heat was just too much coming off the ST for me. The turning point was last year when I was coming out of a short gravel road at our trailer park after a rain, I didn't think I would get out without a major tipover.

The Vstrom is a different bike and I think I will like it once I get used to it (missing my ST at the moment but it will pass). The Vstrom weighs just over 510 lbs where the ST was well over 700, and it still has plenty of horsepower. I looked at quite a few bikes and think this was the right choice for the kind of riding I want to do now.
My wife has the Wee and although a lot of people love it, it does not have enough power for me. The new bike came from a local owner who only had it for 2 seasons and it has just 8500 kms on it as well as quite a bit of factory warranty left on it. Anyway, all of the items seen below were on it with the exception of the Givi Airflow windshield I added the other day. My dilemma is that I really need a top case to fit between the side cases. The side cases are much higher than I would have liked and are Suzuki brand but made by SW Motech. I see a 38 L case that might work but as you can see I only have 16 inches between the cases. Since the side cases load on the top, the lid flips from back to front and needs to clear the side of the top box.

I was hoping someone has a similar setup and could recommend a top case that will fit in there and advise on the mounting plates needed as well. I need something at least 12 inches high to hold my big helmet and it doesn't have to be aluminum in color. Thanks in advance, I don't plan on leaving the forum as there as so many good helpful folks on here. :)

I had a similar issue with my Super Ten and went with a small Shad 34 case that would allow the opening of the side cases.. they didn't sit as high as yours do... I think I could fit a helmet in sideways.

Congrats on your new bike. I looked at the VStrom as well, but decided on a Tracer GT as a replacement for my ST1100. I got a GIVI rack and plate for my GIVI Maxia 52 L top box, which for me has plenty of storage and while not a perfect match for the OEM Tracer saddlebags, fits pretty well with the overall design of the bike. Given your side case set up (aluminum boxes) the top box option as per post # 5 above, seems to fit very well vs. the GIVI.

Revisiting this post after a year. A photo memory came up so I thought I would say my rear top case for the 2018 Vstrom is solved. I for one hate scrolling through a post only to find no resolution. I bought this GIVI B32NMAL box off of Amazon Canada and it works great. There's just enough room for my modular helmet, wallet, phone, gloves et. Because of the space between the side cases flipping forward when open it is just the right size.

How about a quick bike review on the VStrom ?
