Just a note on this - I just changed the rear tire on this ST1100 and the rear pads now show what I consider 'normal' wear.
So I now check and clean all the pins when I do a rear tire change and/or brake pad replacement.
And by removing that one bolt/pin so you can remove the mounting bracket, you get a real clear shot at the pistons for cleaning them and pushing them back in.
