Hi all. Like a squirrel gathers nuts I’m pulling together some consumables I know I will need for my ST. In the garage I’ve got a couple of new and unopened 4 litre containers of Silkolene fully synth 10w/30 oil gathering dust. They are not energy conserving or anything like that and meet all the specs fine. They were flipping expensive and it grates to see them going to waste.

I read that Honda switched from recommending 10w/40 to 10w/30 in or around 2007 on everything, even though their ST1300 bikes were the same.

Any reasons why I can’t use this on my St1100 when it’s oil change time? Engine has 12k miles on it. Climate in England is errr….not exactly tropical

You probably could again if its spec'd for motorcycle usage. As far as the grades go I see no harm in 10W 30 vs 10W 40 for Honda bike engines. FWIW I still use GN4 10W 40. Several years ago Toyota changed their oil recommendations to 5W20 and it use to be 5W 30 for 2005 Toyota engines. I still use 5W 30 because my engine likes it.

Meets all the criteria laid down by Honda for the sort of temperatures we get in the UK. It's what my dealer uses every time my 1100 is serviced. They have been servicing my machine since 1994 and now has 160,000 miles under it's belt so I suspect it isn't doing it any harm

Thanks chaps, that’s terrific. I bought it for a (previous) Honda bike I had and TBH I couldn’t see why not when 10w/30 goes into everything from a highly tuned Fire blade to an air cooled CB1100EX. Nice to have some reassurance.
