Anybody have the BLM dash shelf mounted on their bike? I'm getting ready to install one and could really use some close-up pictures showing the attachment points.

Any installation tips would be much appreciated.

This is Ron Major's shelf, but it is almost like the BLM. Here

Ron built a dash stiffener that is shown here too. As for the shelf, there are two aluminum thingies that slide into the grooves inside the dash. After the cowl has been re-installed the shelf can be attached to the dash with two screws. The supports screw to the shelf on the edge and the other end goes behind one of two screws on each side of the dash.

Here's a picture of the dash shelf on my 2004 ST-1300, it is secured on both side by replacing the two screws that hold the instrument cluster in with longer ones, and by a support strap down the front of the fairing under the windscreen. As you can see it's loaded up with a UHF CB, a TomTom GPS and an iPhone, which all work well.

OK, here are pictures of the BLM shelf that I installed a couple of months ago showing how it is secured. Notice the support braces in the first picture:

View with the windscreen off showing the attachment points on the upper back side of the dash. There were a couple of brackets with holes in them that originally held plastic push pins. These were used to install clip nuts which allowed the shelf attachement bolts to be screwed in.

I got sick of my dash jumping when I hit a bump so I built this.

Dan, I'm guessing you don't take the key out of the bike when you park it at home or the puter store.

Dan's key is probably easier to access than mine ...

BTW, where did you find those ball mounts, Dan?
Yup I never take it out.
I found the mounts on my bench. The came off a windshield for a ST1100 The Duke brought up. I unscrewed the balls from the ends and added 3/8 ready rod to size and away I went. I use double faced tape from 3M to hold it. Sure stopped the dash from shaking and raised it up enough that I can see the blinker lights on the dash ( Still don't shut them off all the time).
