ST1300 in Mexico

As I posted previously, I travelled around Mexico on La Azteca for about eight weeks. It was a very faithful little pony, but I did bottom out on the crankcase at least a dozen times (mostly on the pinche topes). I didn't shoot much video, but here's a random one showing me on a tope in Xilitla and later going over a big rock on a wrong turn to Cascada de Tamul. 95% of the time the ST was great, but there were more than a few times that I was wishing for a dual sport, or something else maybe two hundred pounds lighter with another two inches of ground clearance.

Those "pinche topes" are among the many reasons I I don't drive in Mexico as often as I go down there. Those bastards don't bother PAINTING them to let people know they're there. Only those that live there and already know WHERE they are, are safe from them.
