As much as the ST1100 has REALLY opened up riding to me in a new way, I can't discount the bikes that have gotten me here, some bikes are very forgettable, others like this 80' CX500 were stepping stones that kept elevating my love for bikes.
Does anybody else have a bike that they basically don't want to part with? Please share. IMG_20220625_144106095.jpg

I had two CX500s from 1981 onwards before I "graduated" to STs. Watercooled engine and shaft drive were an eye-opener, I could never go back to more conventional stuff!

Pic of me with the first one. (I swapped all the bodywork for black a few months later.)

And my second one in the '90s. (Still from video, sorry about the quality)

Yea . My 2000 ST1100A ! I've been looking at newer stuff . Even some ugly looking ,expensive bikes made in Germany . But the mile eating ST puts a smile on my face every time I leave the driveway. At this stage , I don't think I can part with Her .

These little CBs always put a smile on my face, but I realized the last one (that was twice as nice once I got it done) never got used and it got sold. This one is getting close to done and I have no idea whether it's a keeper or not. It's a floor-sweep project, but at least it is a neat bike pending any decisions.

Sweet,
Went from the old favourite CX500 to something the USA never got Maybe a Spectre(?) - Anyway, it was a Kawasaki GT750 shaft drive (the big brother to the 550) to which I added a Polaris fairing - then to the ST1100...:)

Pretty cool, I like that bike!

I have a CB 450 with CL pipes, that is totally my problem child though.

My 2001 Yamaha FZ1. 54,500 miles, runs perfectly with the pipe and Ivan’s jet kit! When you just want to rip some corners, very light and really fast compared to the ST. Comfy for a sport bike with the taller bars Installed. I bought this bike for $2 grand, it’s a keeper! 4D053389-0E7E-4A07-A58E-290FBBDAC8C4.jpeg

For me it would have been (had I had the good sense to keep it) my 1100-S V65 Sabre. If Honda released that again just like it ever was (but maybe with FI) I'd swap out my 1300 in a heartbeat.

I remember that pic, Uncle Phil, and trying to colour-correct it.

Now you have more metal in your body than in that Triumph!

I haven't the heart to part with my first bike I ever purchased.
Back when I was 18, a bunch of us from high school bought bikes from different brands and I was the only guy that bought a Honda.
Most of the guys bought Yamahas as that's the dirt bikes they had when they were kids.
When I was a kid, living in a dirt floor house, JK, I had a mini bike with a Briggs and Stratton on it.
I stepped up from that to a 1982 VFS V45 Sabre.IMG_1593.JPGIMG_2719.JPGIMG_2720.JPGIMG_2721.JPGIMG_2722.JPG

Why... that would have to be the...
Radial Four Valve Combustion Chambered - Dual Sequential Carburated - Dual Exhausted - True 4 V Hemi - Dry Sumped - Dual Oil Pumped - Mechanically Actuated Decompression Valved / Decompression Chambered - Four Inch Bored - Dual Sport - Kick Start Thumper... that you can actually [easily] start barefoot.
Battery not required.

I actually miss my Nighthawk 750 quite a bit. I traded it in to get the 2000 ST. I wish I kept it and still bought my ST. I now have the Honda Silverwing, so that’s decently fun, just twist and go! Sometimes it’s nice to have something that feels like your riding fast but really are not. I suspect I took these pics with one of those old flat 110 cameras as the pic quality wasn’t the best. It was stock with an upper and lower fairing (I also had soft saddlebags that were traded with the bike).1A0D9007-9DF2-4311-947F-45C0F7A9F974.jpegB0B2ACDD-60DF-40E5-A495-0821E6AA040E.jpeg

Bikes and beards youtube channel found a new still in the crate 1982 Honda VT 500. They bought it, uncrated it and rode it back to Penn. Looks a lot like your bike.
